Minimising over flow size-Herbie

Hey guys I'm planing a 32g and want to put a Herbie type overflow in the middle of one of the short sides of the tank. (Think in wall tank, 3 sided viewing kinda)

 

My plan is to keep the overflow box as small as possible. I will use 1/2" bulk heads for the return and main siphon and a 1" for the emergency stand pipe. How far from the edge of the glass do I have to drill and how close together can I still the holes. I know this has been asked before but I am in the Solomon islands atm and am reduced to very limit internet.

Why not use a nano ghost overflow? Here is a thread that uses one.

I was going to take that route but I decided I'd rather drill the bottom so I can keep the tank closer to the wall and have less sticking out. It would probably be quieter also

If you want the smallest herbie overflow it needs to be out the back wall. See my 40br tank thread for a detail of how I put it together.

When drilling glass you want the distance from any edge, to be at least 1x the diameter of the hole. 1.5x if possible.
