Firefish varieties

Looking for input on kinds of Firefish. There's the obvious 3, the normal, the purple, and the Helfrichi. Are there any more? Budget? <$250 or so each.

Just curious before I buy a Helfrichi pair.

Exquisite firefish. Variant of the purple, but with a yellow body. Also the Purple face/Cook Island Helfrichi firefish, which is a deeper water Helfrichi that's really cool, but extremely rare and expensive.

That Cook Island one is sweeeet. I'll have to see if I can get a quote on one.

Interesting difference between the normal Purple and the Exquisite.

While I do have a relatively big budget, it's not that big lol. I'll get with some people I know and see if they can give me quotes on it. Thanks! :)

Well local quotes still came out to $1000 a piece. I could swing it but I don't want to tap into the money I have set aside for my next car. Think I'll go with purples or normal helfrichi.

@1.0reef I would do a rare leopard wrasse but the tank is a 12G long, thus the appeal to firefish.

Halo,

I am in the exact same boat as you.

I will not spend over a grand at this point as I am far from being an expert and would hate myself if the little bugger didn't last for whatever reason - not the budget at this point, but the principle.

In my first tank (Fusion 40) I added a Helfrichi and she was gorgeous. She was stressed out by my Damsel and Dottyback to the point where she would not eat and thus passed away. After that loss, which was tragic for us, we decided to build another tank which would be pretty much dedicated to the firefish. That tunred about to be a customer 20 G total system (10g DT, 3g FT, 7g Sump). Fast forward 6 months to today we have a tank that is 2 months cycled that currently has a CUC, 5 Sexy Shrimp and 2 Pom Pom crabs in it. At the end of April we will add 1 Green Clown Goby and then 1 month later the Firefish.

My question to everybody is regarding the pair. We would love to get 2, but is that practical? I have heard people doing a pair, but always questioned it.

I'd do a single or pair of Helfrichi firefish with that budget. Or a rare hogfish, wrasse, or basslet.

I agree, if you can find a nice pair or trio of Helfrichi you'd probably enjoy them while on display in a dedicated tank.

Yep, I'd like to get a trio, and a trio of helfrichi won't run me $3k lol.
