Highball
I've had her for over a year, but is she a maxima or crocea? Thanks! Link to comment
tetraodon
Look close at its inlet, does it have frills Link to comment
gulfsurfer101
Judging from the row of eyes on the outer mantle I'm going to go with maxima. Also if the shell is smooth crocea will have a much smoother shell, where a maxima will have frills or shelving. Link to comment

Herptile
Looks like a maxima. Mine is uniform brown in color, though. Noae http://reefbuilders.com/2014/11/17/tridacna-noae-teardrop-maxima-clam/ I've read about this one, too. I wonder if Zeph has read it also. Link to comment
metrokat
Tear drop Maxima. What a lovely pattern. Link to comment
Highball
Thanks for all the replies and the compliment, Metrokat! Picked her up for $35. She came looking like a plain brown clam with no markings visible on the mantle (wanted to see if I could keep a clam alive before spending a lot on a fancy one). She's been a pleasant surprise! Look close at its inlet, does it have frills Her inlet has small frills that remind me of little teeth Link to comment
gulfsurfer101
Yes tear drop no doubt, and a steal at that price! Link to comment
Highball
Yup! $35 Canadian too! Her mantle looked like it was poop brown and she had a couple of aiptasia on her shell that I nuked. Took about 6 months before her colours fully emerged. I know maximas and croceas should be on rock, but she refused to attach to any rock rubble and seems happy where she is with her foot attached to the floor.... Link to comment
gus6464
My maxima is attached to the seaboard which I use as my bare bottom. I tried rocks and no dice. Link to comment
