arashsheikhpoor
So I have had a few different tanks over the last 1.5 years (12 biocube, 24 biocube, 45 corner and the current standard 75 gallon). With the biocubes I never used a protein skimmer and my coral load was very low. I would just do a water change once a week. I am considering doing a small 5 gallon tank and would like to know how necessary a skimmer is? Could I get away with just water changes? My goal is to have maybe 2 small fish cuc, maybe a shrimp and some soft coral and zoas. Also is there a cheap light someone can reccomend? Would like to spend as little money as I can. Smithjm5
You can definitely get by with just weekly water changes and good flow. As for the light check out the coral compulsion par bulbs. Link to comment

jlangtree
You can definitely get by with just weekly water changes and good flow. As for the light check out the coral compulsion par bulbs. This ^ Tank, heater, HOB filter and light, that's all you need (and maybe a fan/chiller if your temps swing wildly). I would stay away from a hang on Fuge and a substrate in the tank, if you want to keep it simple and export excess nutrients via water changes, as these only give it a place to settle and increase your maintenance time. arashsheikhpoor
Ok cool. So in terms of light there is a range in price from 20 to 150.. what do you guys think of this one? http://m.ebay.com/itm/131465618355?nav=SEARCH Link to comment
