tdannhauser30 Posted March 30, 2015 Share Posted March 30, 2015 Hi everyone, so ive been wanting to make some sort of cheap refugium and what I ended up doing was buying a small shower clear shower caddy with suction cups to stick on the wall of my display. Anyway I went to LFS to get chaeto to put in there and asked for a ball of it. The guy came out with a ball closer to the size of a volleyball then a softball lol, anyway only charged me 3 bucks for it so I took it all. But now I have smushed most of the chaeto into the caddy ( its like overflowing but all definitely staying in) and then put a clump of it in the back corner. MY question is will the chaeto grow and export nutrients well if its all smushed in the caddy? or would it be in my best interest to just throw some out and put a small amount in the "refugium" lol. If it's jammed in there you're going to have a ton of die off. Wish I could get chaeto that cheap around rochester. It's 20$ for a golf ball. You're in buffalo right? If you end up tossing some, throw it in a ziplock and send it my way. Should be ok in the regular mail. Link to comment

But seriously if you want some I got you bro. Ill be home this weekend for Easter then I come back to school at brockport, I can probably bring a little bag with me at least a golf ball size lol, idk how far out you are from brockport but if your close enough just come get it from me at campus, otherwise I can probably stuff it in an envelope or somethin. tdannhauser30 Posted March 31, 2015 Author Share Posted March 31, 2015 would it be a good idea to maybe cut a circle in the side so i can fit the nozzle of a 116 gph powerhead in it? that would definitely get some water flowing through it.. Anyone ive never had a refugium, whats the most effective way to do this with this crappy set up lol.. Is it bad to just put a ball in the back corner of the tank? Should I be worried about the chaeto starting to spread if I do it that way? Link to comment
