IM 30L, refugium or GFO reactor?

Hey All,

I'm setting up a IM 30L in a bit of a tight space, so if I need to remove the black plastic for the refugium light I'll have to do it now, before I add water. Any opionions on which one will do the nitrate removal job best? Also, as an option, since I have two overflows, will it work if I put GFO in one overflow media basket, next to the protein skimmer as opposed to a media reactor? Is the waterflow adequate enough at the overflow?

Many thanks!

honestly I took my refugium section off line on my 30L. It grew the chaeto fine but all it did was catch a ton of debree and grow other algae. I put a bag of carbon in its place and I still run (alway have) PhosGuard in a reactor. Purigen, and FF in the other intake.

If I use chemi pure blue in mine which is a GFO, Carbon, Purigen AIO what should I put in the last open slot?

Are you getting the intank baskets? If you don't run a reactor I would get two baskets. If you're set on the reactor I would fill it with Chemi Pure Blue which is Carbon, Purigen, GFO all in one. You can get the http://www.shop.mediabaskets.com/Innovative-Marine-Fusion-30L-40-Floss-Holder-IM40FH.htminstead of spending more money on the baskets.

I pulled my Phosguard, GAC, and Purigen for ChemiPure Blue and my tank went to crap. Pulled the blue and went back to using the three and its clean again. Just my experience though.

I may use Sea Gel. It has the phosguard and carbon in one.. thoughts?

PhosGuard should last longer than carbon, so you would be wasting phosguard if you change your carbon every two weeks

Thats a good point!

Thanks for the input and the link to the filter floss holder. Way cheaper then the upgraded whole basket. I just set up the tank today and will post pics of it on the AIO forum.
