Most interesting personality/behavioural nano fish?

Hi guys, after being without my own tank for about 7 years, its time to get one going!! im looking at setting up a bedside 25g that can be viewed on three sides. the tank dimensions will be approximately 24x14x18 so it will be quiet tall to accommodate a fairly deep sand bed so i can showcase a jawfish in the front area of the tank (probably my favourite fish). I am more into fish watch rather than having a moving picture and usually choose fish that i find interesting rather than colourful. With that said i do love my cherub angels but i think this tank maybe alittle small for one. Anyone have any favorite fish they like to watch? (ill have to stay away from shrimp gobys as i doubt they will get along with the jawfish)

im looking into acouple fish to goin my jawfish. i need a couple fish to hang in the water column, and afish or to hang and pick around the rock.

I was originally thinking firefish to but i not sure they would hang in the water column or they just hide all day.

does anyone have any experiences mixing them with a royal gamma or a wrasse?

now im starting to lean towards a chalk bass or tabaco fish instead of the gamma or wrasse

I have a Purple Firefish, and it's in the water column all the time. It took a few weeks for it to get comfortable around me, but it doesn't take much for them to realize you're the food god. I wouldn't say the fish has the most interesting personality, but it's beautiful and peaceful. A lot of the personality will depend on the tank mates. Make sure you have a lid.

Recently, I took a gamble on an ORA Neon Dottyback. Dottyback's have quite the bad reputation for having an aggressive personality. But my local LFS has a school in a large shallow community reef tank and I've been watching them for months. They're inquisitive but don't seem to be bullies. My Dottyback is the final of three fish in my 20L - the other two being the firefish and a an ORA Pink Spotted Watchman Goby - two peaceful fish. So far (two weeks), the Dottyback harasses my smaller hermit crab but is getting along great with my peaceful gobies and they are all three always out in the water column. But no shrimps with these guys! The DB is my favorite fish so far - like a pet dog (or a dogface puffer), just follows me around. It's really intrigued by me and it's quite the stunner with its looks and flashing neon markings. And unlike aggressive clowns, won't bite me! I love it and highly recommend one, but only captive born and as the last edition to your tank.

Banggai cardinal (captive bred if possible) would be a good water column fish. They usually hang around the middle to lower half of the tank and out in the open.

Chalk bass would be another interesting option, though I usually see those hanging around the sand more.

A chromis would probably outgrow the tank at some point but that would be a good "swim all over the place constantly" fish. Another option would be one of the smaller damselfish such as a yellow tail blue damsel or a talbots.

Edt: Completely spaced - but I still think clownfish have some of the best "personalities" of any fish. If you're looking for that "puppy dog" fish that is out swimming around pretty much all the time that's a good fish. They're the most popular fish, but for good reason!

IMHO a springers dottyback or a six lined wrasse. Lots of personality and nicely colored. The dottyback has a nervous swim pattern I flies around the tank a lot. It's black and blue color is hard to beat.

Gold Banded possum wrasse. very inquisitive, good pest control, will be more shy though with larger even slightly aggressive tank mates from what I read about them. I had one with a fire fish and clown and he was always out and about throughout the whole tank, in and out of the rock work, came to the front of the tank when I would approach. Def. my favorite fish I have owned personality wise.

I love my orchid dottyback. She's peaceful with the other fish in my tank, but doesn't take any bull from my clown. She sleeps in a cave and often times i see her spitting out sand from it. I'm also amazed at how fast and agile she is!

Basslets, namely Liopropoma. Without other fish in the water column you'll get to see their unusual behavior, same for Assessors as well.
