nladd Posted March 26, 2015 Share Posted March 26, 2015 About 2 weeks ago I purchased my first coral frags, a GSP and a green and red Zoa. Both frags looked really good at the lfs which is why i picked them, i got them home and drip acclimated them for 45 minutes and obviously they were both closed up tighter than Fort Knox, But after about 20 minutes of being in my tank both were fully opened and looked good but that didn't last long for the GSP. Now only 1-2 polyps are open at a time and they don't stay out long, its currently at the stop of my rock work where it gets a good amount of light (coralife biocube stock lighting). I moved it to a mid level rock and it didn't come out period for the few days I had it there. I Tested my water before putting it in and everything was in check, I will test the parameters again tonight to check again. I was worried it wasn't getting enough flow so I added an mj1200 pump today. Does anyone have any idea why its not coming out? before FTER Link to comment
ProtectDa2nd Posted March 26, 2015 Share Posted March 26, 2015 I'm having the same issue with mine, only about 3 or 4 will pop out. Have read they take a while to get up and open. Set and forget is what everyone tells me. Also some people have had luck actually putting them in lower flow. Link to comment
jlangtree Posted March 26, 2015 Share Posted March 26, 2015 Looking at your GSP it appears to be covered in a brown algae, however going by the photos your frag initially had some algae on it, probably made worse by your tanks nutrient issues (looking at the rocks in the first pic you have a brown hair algae issue) If you can remove it do so, and get a very soft infants toothbrush to remove the algae. Then if you like, grab some 3% Hydrogen Peroxide and mix it 50/50 with salt water and leave it in for a 3 minute dip, rinse off with salt water and place back in your tank. Dont be in a hurry for them to come out after all of that ha ha, it may take up to a week for them to fully extend. Good luck Link to comment
nladd Posted March 27, 2015 Author Share Posted March 27, 2015 Yea the tank it came out of at the lfs had a pretty decent bubble algae problem in it which had me worried for a bit but the frag did t have any of that crap on it I'll try scribing and dipping it tomorrow, hope that helps a bit and I just got done testing the water Ammonia-0 Nitrate-2 Nitrite-0 Kh-8 Ph-8.2 Cal.-450 Mag-1400 Link to comment

Juuls Posted March 31, 2015 Share Posted March 31, 2015 I have recently received some GPS, it pretty much shut up and stayed in for a while only the odd polyp came out, today I would say about 40% are making an appearance so we shall see. I did read that it is temperamental to a new tank so maybe this is what has happened as it settles in? Link to comment

I killed my first frag of em when my phosphates were sky high and I had a GHA outbreak, cleaned everything up got params back to normal and after a month tossed the mat as they never grew back and a good sized bristle worm decided to make the underside it's home haha Link to comment
