I was pretty bored on my day off yesterday and thought of a little quick diy project I could do. Why not make a porthole so i can take a few cool pictures of my corals.

I've seen people selling these for like 30 or 40 dollars, granted these ones are magnified and look much better...what can I say I'm sorta a hack. But I plan on making a better one eventually.

I went to Home Depot and got these materials.

Sheet of Acrylic- $9 (I don't remember how big the sheet was but i have a bunch left over so thats a plus)

3" piece of pvc tubing- $2

Aquarium Silicon- $6

I also picked up my own Dremel because i needed my own and because Dremels are fun.

Traced the pipe onto the acrylic, cut out a circle with my new trusty Dremel, and sealed the acrylic to the pvc tube with the silicon. Allow said silicon to cure for 24 hours and Boom!

I love my cleaner shrimp anytime I'm poking around in the tank he is always out, so curious.

Ive been planning on doing the same thing, you have spurned me to make it happen!

It was really simple. The hardest part was finding everything in the store. I didnt really know where to look. luckily they made a map on their mobile site for my location haha!

Definitely worth it, I would have taken more pictures but I dropped the hood down on my nose and almost dropped my camera in the water lol.

I need to check, but I'm 99% sure I can fit my cameras lens in a 4" PVC. I plan on using Weld on to fuse mine, Its a really great glue/solvent for plastics

I brought my lens protector because I felt self conscience about bringing my camera into Home Depot. haha

it looked like it would fit in a 2" but I didn't want to have to drive back.

Be sure to post pics when you do it! I love close up corals!
