aviator300
I've had my Torch Coral for over a year now and it's always looked and acted healthy but i've seen something the last 2 days that has me worried. The torch is well colored and has long wavy tentacles just like normal but right in the middle of the tentacles (where the mouth would be) a large (approx 1/2" ) totally see through bubble has formed. It almost looks like a see through dome of some sort where you can see right down into the inner workings of the coral. The bubble also waves back and forth with the water flow and seems to be very fragile but it's always there now. I tried to take a photo of it but it's so transparent that it doesn't show up well at all on the photo..I can try to take pics of it again tomorrow but in the meantime, does anyone have any idea what it may be? Juuls
Please note I am a total novice but have been reading tonnes on euphyllia as I now own one that does rather random things (was going to get a torch but when for frogspawn). anyway search "Bubbling" on that link.. it says this is normal, I have also read it is to do with splitting etc, http://www.wetwebmedia.com/carypropfaqs.htm torch specific incident http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2044435 http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2012/10/corals also makes note that Euphyllia can bubble and shows a picture, which is pretty much the same effect on Hammers and in torches from those that I have seen on other forums. Apparently they do this when they are splitting, I know I have read this mostly for hammers and frogspawn though, only found one or two references to torches out there. I hope someone with torch experience can enlighten me as I am starting to get very addicted to reading about this group of corals, also hope that your torch does well. I will be watching this thread with interest, apologies for being of no more use. Link to comment
CronicReefer
Yeah my frogspawn did this exact thing, it actually dropped almost half of its polyps. It now has 3 mouths instead of one and is looking better than ever. Give it time, brown jelly disease is what you really need to be worried about with most euphyllia. Coral neoplasia is not very common in the aquarium so I doubt it would be that. Link to comment
