Blue Eyed Tang

I have never kept a tang before in my life lol. But I found this one to be beautiful and for what I researched "easy" to keep in comparison to other tangs.

He is definitely eating frozen, but he is too scared to see me, so I have to throw food and run away and I see him eating what he can grab after several seconds hiding, which is not much. He is picking at the algae that he founds in the tank and rocks I guess, I don't know if what he is picking on the rocks is actually algae but I see him picking at the rocks. He is not eating the algae I put in the clip, maybe he is not used to it, or he is not interested in the brand at all...

My question is; Is the scared as hell behavior normal? Will that go away with time? I am afraid he will start to starve if he doesn't get used to my presence when feeding. I will try to change the algae brand and see if he starts at least eating this algae.

Also if I try Rogers Food with algae (the green version), would that be enough to not feed him the actual algae?

I don't want to lose him, its my first tang, and I really like him.

How long have you had it?

My Kole was super skittish when I first got him...took a few weeks to start venturing out. Now he's a pig. Mine will only eat meaty foods....no interest in the veggies. He will suck on a bit of film algae that grows on the glass.

Not even a week with me sir. I should have waited a bit longer to see, but I still wanted to know if that behavior would go away.

Thanks for the reply, makes me feel better.

Also make sure you are giving him nori in addition to frozen and flakes. They need to always have nori available throughout the day. This might help him become a little less skittish. Also what size tank is he in?

I have a tiny kole tang which still does not eat anything I have thrown in. He only grazes on rocks? Any reccomendations?

You can try soaking the food in garlic that always seem to help them get their appetite back. what have you been trying to feed him?
