Mojado
I have a 5.5 gallon tank for my gravity feed ATO reservoir. Every few months I have to remove it and rinse it out because I get a white/clear slime in there. The white slime also clogs my valve and I have to clean that too. I assume its a bacterial slime. Any way to keep it from forming? If no, I'd settle for any steps to at least mitigate it. Thanks! Link to comment
12_egg_Omelette
Clean it with some diluted each and then wash three times with top of water. Link to comment

Mojado
Here's the slime in some hot tap water with a bit of vinegar in it. Link to comment
ajmckay
That is odd... Is there any chance of cross contamination¿ seems like that shouldn't happen Link to comment
Mojado
I think it is because it is an open top reservoir. If it was sealed, it may be better. Though I'd have to vent it a little so that it is able to empty as needed into the sump. I'm in the middle of filling it, btw. Link to comment

Mojado
This. So you think a glass top to this 5.5 gallon with a breathing hole (to allow it to empty as needed into the sump) would do the trick to keep the slime from forming? Link to comment
afyounie
I have a 5 gal plastic storage container and I have no vent holes for the cover. It fills my tank fine. I don't think putting a cover on top is going to cause problems unless you are dumping a lot of water very quickly or you are sealing it completely shut. Link to comment

Yeah, I think most storange bins aren't hermetically sealed, so it'll breathe just enough so that an ATO-type drip will be OK. I'm assuming you don't have the white slime problem, right? afyounie
Sorry, not gravity fed. I use a small pump. But no white slime problem whatsoever. Link to comment
