Hi,

I am just wondering if anyone gets a response to questions about led fixture specs from their lfs. Can't get a real answer to what is the par, will it penetrate 22" of water will it grow sps. I am trying to switch to leds but I only want to spend the money once if possible. Does anyone have any thoughts ?

37 gallon 30l x 12d x22h I would like to build it if i could which is why i am concerned with specs. Buying is an option as well with a budget of about $400

Ok personally I would buy some Nano Box pucks and be done with it. I think 3-4 should cover it.

for the pucks - http://www.nano-reef.com/topic/355869-nano-box-v3-array-lime-luxeon-t-uv/?hl=depth

You're basically looking at building a Quad which is why I think 4 is the right number to use. http://www.nano-reef.com/topic/337504-nano-box-duo-quad-pricing-hanging-and-info/

Drop in a Bluefish Mini controller (I think you can get these from Nano box also) - https://aquarium-led-controller.com/product/bluefish-mini-ldd-controller/

It'll be tough to hit the $400 mark going this route, you may need an extra hundred but it'll be worth it.

As an alternative, look into building an Evil Cluster (although I don't think you'll save much)

Ben's thread is pretty comprehensive, also do a search for "evil cluster" in the lighting forum and you'll find lots of example. Most of them include a detailed list of the LEDs and the only thing you may want to incorporate is some Lime to brighten it up.

You could just use the nano box pucks as a template and just build your cluster from those, they just wouldn't all be on the same board.

Hope this helps, let us know if this is all too confusing.
