Sunstar
I was attempting a cycle, but I apparently got some real ripe stuff which I believe is hydrogen sulfied. Evidenced by grey sand. In any event, how can I reverse this, or should I take it out, dry it out and restart? I admit my own stupidity created this, but I am now learned from the experiance. Link to comment
brandon429
Show a pic pls It takes heavy organic pockets in the sand to get it, rare for new/cycling Bed coloration won't ID it alone, perhaps w black spots...my own super old dsb w do reds greens grays at times w worms tracking through it, which means no h sulf Link to comment
GMay
Are you sure it is hydrogen sulfide (HS). If it is it would smell like rotten eggs or very bad at the least. Grey sand is not alone a good indicator of HS. It also has to be very anaerobic for the formation of HS. You also might consider doing a few frequent water changes as it would be a shame to loose the benefits of live rock by drying and starting all over. Link to comment
