AI Prime in a Biocube 29

Hello,

I've got a 29 Biocube and was curious if the new AI Prime would be a suitable light. I know it says it has a 18x18 coverage which is just slightly smaller than the 20x20 of the tank. But with my rock layout nothing is really up against the glass, and would be within the 18x18. I also only have softies and zoas down on thr bottom with everything else higher up in my rock work. I've got an 150w MH on top of the tank now bit it looks like the AI would fit in the stock hood with some custom mounts. Its also full spectrum and has an android app control which would be very nice, and for the price it seems like a great deal. Im just thinking my tank my big on the upper limits of the light, if it hasn't already passed them. What do you guys think?

Thanks!

Single point LED coverage over a 20x20 area is not the same as single point MH due to not having a reflector like the MH. If you don't have SPS you will probably be ok, but if you have SPS the growth patterns will be funny with 1 LED.

If you can swing it, a nanobox retrofit will be a night and day difference compared to the prime. I believe Dave does 2 arrays for that tank, and makes it all fit in the canopy cleanly. He also has a much better LED combo than the prime. Browse the prime thread and look how many people went nanobox instead.

Yup, I think that Nanobox would be a much better choice. That's what I did!

Almost went with the Prime HD until I read this thread. This is what happens when experienced folks share their thoughts instead of keeping them inside... greatness happens!

I've had an HD Prime running on my 29 biocube for 3 months now, at 12" above the waterline and I couldn't be happier. With SPS and LPS both loving it. I do have a sand bed that's 2" though...? I can also tell you that none of the lighting spectrum are above 50% either. With the HD you can go above 100% in spectrum intensity if needed. And it looks so small and sleek , to me it's a no brainer!
