Doubt it well be overkill. If anything it will help with coverage.

yeah, that's what i wanted to go for was more coverage. thanks!

I'm in the exact boat as you, thinking about adding supplemental T5's to my Radion G3. I'm thinking about getting the 3 ft kit from BRS (http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/3-ft-let-lighting-miro-4-t5-high-output-retrofit-kit-e6da32eef072f987685b6eddca072d4f.html). What bulb do you guys think would help to bring more "warmth" to the LED, considering the Radion still comes with CW's? The T5's would come on during peak hrs: ATI Aquablue Special or ATI Coral Plus, or one of each? This is over a IM Fusion 30L with a canopy.

If you're debating between Aqualblue Special and Coral Plus, always go with Coral Plus. Aquablue Specials are almost legacy bulbs at this point.

How much shimmer will be reduced by adding the T5's? I love the shimmer LED's add, and I'm a bit concerned that will go away completely.

Unfortunately with t5's, there is no shimmer. You could try the power module to add LEDs to the mix to get some shimmer, or better yet, a nanobox hybrid.

I know with only T5's, is a distributedlight source, there won't be any shimmer. My question was: in addition to a Radion, how much shimmer would be reduced with the ADDITION of 2 T5 strips?

I havent seen much of a shimmer with radions or anything else really. maybe some disco balling, but with actual shimmer, I have only noticed kessils due to the dense matrix. Even with a lot of surface disturbance, with regular LEDs im not too sure what you will experience. :S

are you getting any shimmer nao ?

I get the "shimmering" on the sandbox with my AI VEGA, and no discoball....not unless you turn up the green and red.

I know the shimmering you're referring to in the Kessel, and it's not the same. No disrespect to the Kessel, which is a great light. But the shimmer is just "too much", even with the slightest surface disturbance. Staare at it long enough gives me a headache.

The shimmer of light I'm talking about is just the rippling" of the waves reflected on the sandbed and I think Any of the multi-puck lights gives you that. I'm just worried the T5 would overpower the LED to the degree that it removes the shimmer I've come to expect from LED source.

Not a very good example, but I think this video answers my question. (ATI/LED/T5)

My bad, apparently i thought i was on the post asking which to decide between t5 and a radion, and answered accordingly.

2 t5's and you should still see shimmer without much problem, but 4 t5's and you will likely overpower a lot of the shimmer.
