Red lights at night, not moonlight?

Could there be a negative effect of using red spectrum at night rather than moonlight (blue)?

The reason I ask is because my upcoming tank will be in my bedroom and I know that too much white/blue light before bed can be bad for sleep. Red however, is apparently beneficial to humans and therapeutic.

Just use violet leds, very dim (visually) and great moonlights. depending on the tank size, 1-2 is good for a moonlight.

I was planning on just getting an LED unit; would this work for both assuming the unit has good programable options?

NO

violet are very high par and very low visibility, this would be a bad idea and may not end well for your corals as they will not get a rest period.

as to using red, I'll let led gurus answer that, but I would think it would be okay.. or maybe a very dimly lit green or lime..

if it's in your bedroom you're better off not having moonlights, or only running them a few hours on each end.

I've heard quite a few people say they use red for moonlights. It supposed to not bother the fish like blues do.

I dont see one or two violet leds being an issue honestly. Yes they are high par but meh. Reason i suggested it was because the OP was worried about visual light that its giving off and i know violets look dim to the eye.

violets look dim to the eye, and to get enough of it to be worthwhile as a moonlight you're going to be putting more par down on the tank than you think.. you're better off with a brighter (to the eye) led and running it very low.

Hm, on my first ever reef i ran 2 violets as moonlights without a problem. Didnt run them all night, just for a "sunset" apperance and night time viewing. Had no issues either with corals. Even though it was a failed reef but thats cause i was a noob

I have a red LED for my moonlight, no ill effects to my livestock at all. I love it as it lets me walk around at night without ruining my night vision.

Red lights would make a pretty decent light source except that it will be something coral notice. That said coral notice all light really since they can use quite a bit of it even uv.

I don't think it will be a problem.
