Suggestions are welcome :D

-Setup-

10 gallon Tank

Jaboe wp10 wave maker

Sea clone skimmer

50 watt heater

Orbit marine LED auto light

11.5 lbs of live fiji rock

-Creatures-

1 black clown (Just awesome.. stays playing in the wave maker)

10 dwarf ceriths

2 florida ceriths ( 2 died on shipping from http://www.reefcleaners.org/)

4 nerites (Wich on the 1st night introduced laid eggs on my back wall)

3 nassarius vibex

Tank cycles in 7 days was pretty stoked about that! Reef is still in its first month.

Water parameters are currently.....

-Temp 78*

-PH 8.1

-Specific Gravity 1.026

-N03 Undetectable

-N02 Undetectable

-DKH 10

-Maintenance-

I do 25% water changes weakly using IO reef crystals

Usually I add almost 1/4g of RO water every 2 days due to evap.

Feed clown once a day after work

-Tank plans-

Still a little undecided on coral i'm going to get. Ive been reading up on a lot of coral so i'm sure ill pull the trigger soon. As for now just taking things slow and learning the reef process.

Here are a couple pictures enjoy!

Love the clown! Any algae start popping up for you? And i gotta get on getting a canopy for it. Its dry in the apartment especially the bedroom and i lose alot of water through the week. Top of every day .

Nice start to your tank, I am sure it will keep getting better and better.

Hopefully in a few months I will get to where you are :)

Yeah he is awesome I built that canopy just as a quick fix after I got the clown I started reading all these horror stories about them jumping out so I just slapped some 2x4's together until I can build a nice one. Hopefully it will help with the evap too. Supprisingly enough algea hasnt been a problem at all.. idk why but im sure its coming?? Maybe bc I cycled my tank with the lights off and the first sight of little green patches after my cycle on my rock I added my CUC.

Its almost like my live rock is shedding 2. Must be all the stuff that was living on it before and as it peels back you can see my coralline algea coming in all over the place.

Same here except for old Coraline skeleton bright white and diatoms wont grow on it. Still alive maybe? I left my lights on for majority and i excepted diatoms. Hope it runs its course soon. But on a good note my tank cycled:) so sat im gonna get two corals. Im holding off on fish right now.

I bet your excited finally get some stuff in that tank! Any ideas on your first two corals? I woke up this morning and had a little bit of diatom spots popping up on my rock. Part of starting a new tank, think i'm going to switch to feeding my clown every other day.

I think I'm gonna just see what pops out at me, then ill post it up here. Been looking at possum wrasses and some different gobies for fish when I do decide to add fish. As for diatoms popping up it will run its course feeding on nitrates and silicates, then it should subside and die out. I'm hoping my lfs ro water is really up to par and they have been changing there filters.

Here's a little update guys! Added the second clown and man did they hit it off quick. Got absolutely aggravated with the seaclone skimmer wanted to chuck it out the window lol so I scrapped it. Running a aquaclear 110 with polishing pad, sponge, carbon and GFO. Water has been awesome ever since. Phosphate's have almost come down to 0 since the addition of the new filtration and the macro algea. Picked up a nice favia brain coral and some GSP. Tanks rolling right along enjoying it very much! Had a pretty nasty bacterial bloom for about a week then in cleared up over night (new tank cyn.)

O yeah with the wave maker and the 110 the flow is awesome everything is getting love.

Wish my galaxy 5 would take better pictures sorry.

If anyone has any ideas on how to filter out fine particles in water column? It's not bad but would be awesome if I could get it 100% clear.

Pictures look good man atleast I can tell whats what lol mines no good for close ups. As for fine particles double up on poly filter pads or fine polishing pads. I like that idea for the cheato to keep it in place. I had some in the back wedged but it trapped crap and tiny pieces flew everywhere. Pain in the ass.

I'm gonna double up see what happens. I put the cheato where there is prolly the least flow little pieces break off every now and then but the 110 is a beast just snags them right up. Dang post office kept my cheato for like 4 days and the box was all smashed up.. so hopefully it will come back.

Had a clown jump.. really sucks but also rescaped some rock for water flow. Finally got the brain to eat!

Keep moving my GSP around to trying to get it to fully open, used a toothbrush and scrubbed it off a little hopefully that will do the trick. I know my lighting is a lot better than the one at the LFS so maybe it's still acclimating. Going to head sat to get some more coral.

Did you just get your gsp? Ive read that sometimes they wont come out for 1 to 2 weeks. Everything else going well besides a jumper? :/ sorry man. I got worried having a six line i had to modify my stock hood for the standard ten gutted it cut two en notches out bam put it over the light it works i you want to go that root . Forgot u had the same light lol.

Yeah man even with my canopy he still managed to jump threw a 1 inch slit.. 1st problem I've had since I started this tank. Guess you'll have them here and there in this hobby. Ill bounce back though! I am going to try to change it up sounds like a good idea you got with the standard.

The back is an issue ifn your running a 110, just cut to fit. I've been meaning to ask you, what kind of rifle is that hanging on the wall? Model 700? I got a few guns as well. ; )

Link to comment
ProtectDa2nd

Yeah the 110 is huge didn't realize it was that big lol. I got way to many guns.. that was what I use to sink most of my play money into before the new tank. There's a 308 wich is black 12 gauge and a black powder wich was the camo. I do have a 700 tho bolt action. I won it at a moose lodge when I was drinking one night. But I'm going to set and forget the GSP for a while.

How are the corals doing? What did you get ? What i can make out on the sandbed a brain coral of sort? Mine are doing good. Im finding it a pain to pick up crap from the fish. It bothers me seeing it ad its never ending lol

Yeah its's a Favia Brain doing real good and the GSP. Got a green BTA but the 110 grabbed it up.. woke up to my tank being super cloudy so I doubled up on the carbon and did a water change in fear that it would kill everything else in my tank from letting off a bunch of toxins. Going threw some pains with the loss of the clown and the BTA. hopefully things start getting a little better just a streak of bad luck, other than that what parameters and the overall health of the tank is awesome. Just gonna have to learn from my 2 little mistakes and move on. wbu you brotha how's your 10 going?

Having a little trouble with my LFS, they havnt been stocking any new corals for a couple weeks 2 so I havnt got anything others.

Off to a great start! I see some great potential in this tank. That wp10 is an awesome choice for a ten gallon, isn't it. It's what I'm currently using in mine. I was going to choose the rw4 but after hearing multiple times how is going to be overkill I decided to stick with the wp10 after all and I couldn't be happier.

Don't feel bad I went and bought at possum wrasse its the original fish I wanted and a some sort of gobie or blenny so I got a six line before hand anf to my ignorance thinking it would be okay. In a day my poor possum wrasse was beaten severly by the sixline tiny little guy and I put him in a breeder net the possum as soon as I could but it was to much for the possum=( made me angry that littke son of bitch could tear a fish apart like it did. Needless to say I'm going to catch the sixline and return him due to its size it will reach and get another possum wrasse. I feel terrible man. I shoulda put him right in a net first day, came home he was hiding thought he was okay but I couldn't see how bad it was. On a better note my corals are in great health algae here and there but its going good so far.

Dang mark that sucks! Part of reefing I guess. I felt so bad I starting reading some stories on forums of people doing worse so it made me feel a bit better. I've Learned a lot these past couple weeks that's for sure. Made some changes to my tank so none of this would happen again. Shortened the Ac110 tube so its nowhere near anything and put the cap on it so it wont suck anything else up. I'll post some pics shortly.

Thanks a lot Gulf! For the price you cant really beat the wp10. What is your favorite mode to set it on? Do you know if it's better to have it make a bigger waves or just enough to rock the water? I personally keep it in else mode for random flow. I was afraid of it being overkill myself with the wp10 and the AC110 but it doesn't pick up any of my sand bed or anything. I have very nice water movement.
