jedimasterben
I still like the tank in your banner, the rimless one lit by the Radion. Hmm. I think I recognize it. Oh. http://www.marinedepot.com/md_educationcenter_featured_tank_032013-ap.html Smooth, MD. Link to comment
SpankythePyro
looks like someone should be collecting royalties on that photo! Link to comment

Oh. http://www.marinedepot.com/md_educationcenter_featured_tank_032013-ap.html Smooth, MD. Hi jedimasterben, Jeff from MD here. I didn't want to leave you hanging since you brought this up in an earlier post. We had to get creative to get a consistent look on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, YouTube and on our blog. We viewed this more as a graphical representation of a reef aquarium, not necessarily MetroKat's aquarium. Kat and I actually exchange emails regularly to talk about the hobby and she granted us permission to use her 'scape. I admit I found your posts worrisome—we certainly didn't mean to come across as inauthentic—so I asked Kat if she preferred we remove the graphics... but she's cool with them. Link to comment

The problem is not that the photo was used or altered without permission, as she is surprisingly ok with it, it is the fact that MD felt the need to embellish her tank to make it look as though it took high-end equipment to get to the point she did. I understand that saying "Hey, look at this amazing tank that uses power compact lighting and a measly skimmer, you can have results like that with some hard work and dedication!" doesn't sell Radions or rimless tanks, but you should not resort to misrepresentation to do it. My two cents on the subject. Link to comment
SpankythePyro
I would have to second that. Although I would not have been as kind to use the word embellish. This hobby already had earlier problems with inaccurate coral lighting representation, it doesn't need the same done elsewhere. Link to comment
tibbsy07
It is a bit misleading... Kat's tank has taken a LOT of work and effort to get to this stage. I understand why it was photoshopped, however for people new to the hobby, seeing that picture could imply that simply getting a rimless AIO and the Radion Pro would allow for a tank to look exactly as pictured. The rest of us know that isn't possible. That scape/coral growth/coloration are the result T5s and LEDs (stock RSM T5 plus panorama pros, stunner strips and marineland accent LEDs...) but also a sump with a heavy duty refugium and skimmer, countless hours of dedicated work and LOTS of feeding/dosing. I think it only fair to put a disclaimer with the picture indicating that this is simply a photoshop and that the items pictured do not necessarily guarantee the results inside the tank. That or fix the photo to reflect exactly what is happening, either with the normal tank's specs or find a tank that uses that AIO/Radion pro set up and ask to use THAT tank. Link to comment
