Orbit Marine Pro - Current-USA

So I saw that these are available for pre-order from saltwateraquarium.com. 18-24" starting at $269.96 vs the Orbit Marine starting at $129.99. Thing is I can't find specs on this beyond the fixture length, and chip spectrums and numbers, even on the Current USA website. All it indicates is that it has a wider spectrum as opposed to the "dual daylight" and "dual actinic" (still don't know what that is), has the PAR to grow sps, but no data, and has new "dome optics". The smallest is 21w with 42 leds.... So they are still only .5 watt diodes where the original has .25 I think. No info on chip source anywhere. No pre-release reviews?

You have to dig around to find info on the original even now, and you don't get much. I do know that the feedback from people who actually own/owned them was really good within limitations of the setup it can handle. In fact, the negatives I found (I FOUND) all came from people who had never actually used it. For an increase of more than $100 for the "Pro" version I'd sure like to know more about it. That's bumping it very close to the ballpark of a few lights that do provide all that info. None with that form factor and built in control and programming, though.

I am an owner of the original Current Marine Orbit.

Not sure I see a question in OP's post but I guess my $0.02 would be to purchase 2 of the original orbit's and put $40 back in the wallet before ponying up for the pro. I have a single unit on my Biocube 29. LPS and soft corals doing fine. Debating adding a 2nd unit in order to support SPS.

Just looking for two cents really. :)

I actually just ordered the original a few days ago for my 20 fusion. It's going to be softies and lps, and two rock flower nems. That's all it'll ever be, and everything I read from owners (yourself included) left me confident it would be sufficient for my tank and livestock. It's also exactly what I want in form and built in programming. I figure if I needed/wanted to in the future I could add some true lumen strips or build something to tweak the color, and throw that on a timer set inside of my daylight hours. I'm looking forward to seeing the color for myself, and how it's different from my Nanobox array.

Really, I'm just curious if anyone knows anything more about the Pro, has read anything about the improvement in the array... Or if they think Current USA will release any more info on what goes into the higher price tag. I may need another 20 Fusion for sps next year. There's an empty corner in my living room. :)

to answer the "dual" day and actinic spectrums, its axactly as it sounds, two spectrums of whites and two spectrums of blues, making a total of 4 spectrums overall being produced by the light. i can check my box as to what the specific spectrums are, just dont have it around me. i loved my 18-24" on my spec V, had no problems with sps growth and color. in small (shallow) tanks like mine they work great, im thinkin the new one is to compete more with build my led and the reef brites for larger tank applications, though i know nothing more about the new fixture
