My experience with Rare Anemones

Hey everyone,

I have a 50 gal tank, which has been running since June 2014. I recently went on CoralCollection.com and purchased two beautiful anemones. 1 Purple Rain BTA and 1 Acid Rain BTA.

Once the package arrived, I kept documentation of the acclimation, with video and everything, (and kept sending them the process of this acclimation) because I was concerned about the PURPLE RAIN BTA since I pulled it out of the box. It just looked "off". Even my expert friend was aware that something was weird, the water it came in was murky and had lots of debris floating around.

Company has 3 Day guarantee, it is Monday and I have been insisting it was dead since Thursday 26th 12pm.

It arrived on Thursday 26th 1030am.

Judge by the pictures with your own eyes, comments are welcome. What would you do? How would you feel?

They look 100% normal. You will know if they are dying or dead. They will spew out white stuff that looks like chewed up spaghetti. Give them a week or 2 and they will be nice and happy.

I really hope so. Thanks Lawnman. The guilt has been killing me.

They definitely look unhappy to me, when the mouth is open that big

the pics of them in the tank look better, I'm on my phone so I can't see much

hopefully they will be fine. As lawnman said, they're not spewing stuff, and that's a good sign

yes i wondered about the mouth too.

but it might just be they are expelling water

after a long trip shipping?

i agree that if their mouths or stomach isn't

thrown out like that within the tank, it is better

news. good luck! i know, it's hard not to worry.

sending good healthy nem thoughts.

sending good healthy nem thoughts.

Thank you!

they really helped! She seems to have come around, or at least she is still hanging in there. The foot was damaged, because for a few days she wasn't even walking nor was she holding on to anything, so I had to set the flow to almost "still water" for like 3 days... now she has adapted to the place where she was been healing ...apparently.

Just looked at the video and it reminded me of the funk from the old gregg video. haha.

They will get all funky looking during shipping. They still have great color and are not exuding any chunks so they definitely aren't dead. Keep your water clean and let them settle in. I am sure they will be fine. By the way I am jealous! Ive been thinking about ordering the same exact 2 nems from them to add to my collection. Good luck!

:tears: Well she perished three days ago, the Purple Acid Rain BTA. Very sad.
I got a replacement, however, she is very different looking but incredibly beautiful as well. The Lime BTA, purple tips, with a yellow golden body and lime-green mouth. :wizard:

I know I was very sad ...it is my fault after all... regardless if it wasn't :tears:

The Lime BTA was replaced for free. Coral Collection is awesome, they were super cool about my experience. It helped that I documented the arrival every step of the way, and the following 3 days.

Lime BTA has been eating, she devours whatever the Skunk Shrimp, aka "el Doc," doesn't steal from her tentacles LOL

I got this picture of the front of her, it is hard to get a good shot, since you have to get at a 45ª angle from the glass in order to see her mouth.

This is the best I could do with my phone's camera. Not the best, but you can begin to appreciate the lime green mouth a little.

A good way to tell if an anemone is definitely going to kick the bucket is to smell the water. It will smell like dead fish sitting in stagnant saltwater at a warm temperature for a day or more. Stinky.

Ok so yesterday, April fools I guess my anemone decided to fool me... with an evil twist.

She looked marvelous, as you can see in the pictures. Today however, I wake up and see her on the sand bed all shriveled up. post-83895-0-74960000-1428001576_thumb.jpg

Any ideas or suggestions? I was about to do my bi-weekly water change, but I don't know if that is a good idea right now. What do you guys think?

Very well, so upon the crazy amount of suggestions I held off on the Water Change. However I did return from work and found the Lime BTA on the sand face-down. So this is around 1am where I had to figure something out...

I placed her in a net with a rock, floating in the display with hopes of her recovering. Look at the picture of her this morning... I am becoming very concerned, hope she makes it.

It bugs me, because she was super healthy 2 days ago... SUPER healthy... she was eating and everything! *sob* *sob*post-83895-0-63818600-1428081417_thumb.jpg

check the salinity of your water and find out the salinity of the water it came from. I killed 3 pep shrimp and a bta because I had let my salinity creep up into the 1.026 range and the store where I bought them was at 1.021-1.022, it was too big of a difference for them. The shrimp died in about 2hrs and the bta died in 2 days. It took me awhile to figure out because I have a rose bta in the same tank, but had been in as the salinity creeped up so it was ok.

nah, impossible i have an ATO and it is super anal because my skimmer is in the same chamber, so constant level is paramount. There are two other anemones in separate ends of the tank & 4 shrimp, no one suffered anything. This Lime BTA just randomly dove off into the sand yesterday, from being 100% beautiful 24 hours before. She has been in the tank for nearly 3 weeks now.

I am completely baffled, I can't understand why this happened! :tears::wacko:

Hoping she recovers...post-83895-0-97550400-1428093052_thumb.jpg
