Raise the height of Biocube?

So this has been bothering me for quite a while. The damn Biocube stand is too short! I am not an abnormally tall person, only 6ft. But I always have to sit or squat to look in my tank! Even when I sit I still have to hunch down a little to see the whole reef.

I've toyed with the idea of going rimless, going partial rimless (just remove the front of the lid in front of the splash guard as well as the tank rim within that section), building a custom enclosure/stand, and just building a platform to raise the tank.

Realistically, I think an extra foot up would do wonders. I might build a wood base platform and paint it black to blend in, and make it a little wider than the stock stand to maintain stability.

Has anyone else had these thoughts? Has anyone else done something clever to remedy?

Am I the only one who is really bothered by the height of the stock Biocube stand!?

Guess you gotta get a bigger, customade tank! ;)

hahaha. Well yea, duh. Of course. Unfortunately, I am not going to be doing that until we move. Living in the 'starter home' townhouse for now and moving in to the big house sometime in the next 1-4 years. I don't want to move a 100g+ tank that soon. I envision using this Biocube as a species tank, frag tank, or kids tank when we move. And I get my bigger custom made tank!

I did the exact thing to my aquapod. Stand is 28"×28"×40". Perfect viewing height and kiddos can't reach it to drop stuff in or knock it over. Plus I can fit a 29 gallon sump in it for future expansion...

Maybe a new stand all together is what I need to get? Hmm, since it is just a 14g, maybe a normal cabinet from furniture store would suffice?
