Moving zoa colony

Firts off please don't judge me. I've been neglecting this tank a little since I started setting up a new one, and I just did a water change before snapping this pic so they're kinda irritated. :)

So when I got these as 8 polyps I stuck them on a disk mag on the back wall. They've since grown over the whole disk, up onto the wall, and onto the neighboring rock. What's the most gentle way of moving them into the new tank? I know I can pry the guys growing up the wall off with a blade even though I've never done this before (so it makes me a tiny bit nervous). The real concern is with the ones that have spread onto the rock. I'd like to keep some on the rock, and move the mag disk separately, but Ive never fragged anything! There is no local reef club in my area or even a local lfs that I can approach for help with it. It's up to me and the interwebs to get this done. Tips or advice?

Hi Mate!

Fragging Zoanthids is pretty simple. First off I assume you cant take out the rock because the Zoas have attached it to the side of the tank?

Firstly, grab a razor-blade and slide it down the glass to "Skin"it off the glass. You should end up with a floppy sheet of Zoanthids that you can simply cut off.

The floppy sheet of Zoas you can separate by cutting chunks of polyps off (4-5) and gluing them into frag plugs (for sale or trade later)

Next, if you want to keep them on the rock you can simply use a scalpel or the same razor-blade and cut around the original mag plug the same as you did the ones on the wall.

Zoanthids (by the photo yours look like Eagle Eyes) are generally pretty hardy and can take a bit of hacking, I actually cut mine with scissors ;)

Thank you. So is this something that's hard to screw up? Do I cut them at the base of the stalk where I want to separate from the colony?

And yes, they are mostly eagle eyes. There is a cluster of palys in the middle. It began as one, but has grown slowly, and the eagle eyes just kind of grew around them. They are stil pretty much where I put them, so no need to bother with them.

Oh and I guess this is a stupid question, but I can do the cutting out of water after I skin them off of the wall, yeah?
