matty0206
I recently acquired a well established Golden Dwarf moray and I seem to remember a few people here keeping them. I have a few questions. The guy I bought him from fed him krill exclusively and I'm wondering if I should try to very his diet some? He also fed him twice a week but didn't really say how much, should I feed him quite a bit? I have also noticed head twitching which I'm assuming is normal just like in snowflakes but wanted to double check. The tank was set up for him and has been sealed completely to prevent escape so I think I am good there. Any other advice would be awesome. Thanks. Link to comment
Rehype
One of my favorite animals... You should vary his diet. I fed mine silversides as well as clam and lance fish. Its ok to feed them twice a week. I fed mine only once a week(one large silverside was enough) Yes the head twitching is normal they do it when they smell food in the water. They are the coolest and one of the most peaceful animals i have ever encountered despite being predators. I would advise to check and make sure your tank is truly sealed because if there is a way out they will find it. Link to comment
rone_kevin66
Nice Score IDE LOVE One But Man Are They Expensive. Keep us posted on how he dose Link to comment
matty0206
I think I am good on the sealing. The tank is a 29g biocube, I built a screen top the fits inside the lip and is anchored. I also used gorilla tape and sealed off the access to the back chambers. He has been up a few times and tested I think but so far so good. Here is a pic Link to comment

matty0206
That is one of his preferred holes but he has really excavated the whole underside of the rock work, I figured he might so the scape was built on the bottom and then the sand was added. Link to comment
rnmike
What else is in your tank? I know Rehype said they're peaceful, I'm just curious. I've always wanted an eel, but I've always been told that they will eat anything they can fit in their mouths. Am I misinformed? I really hope I am, I want one! Link to comment
Rehype
They will eat really small shrimp or fish (such as nano gobies or sexy shrimp) Link to comment
matty0206
I have a pair of Bangaii cardinals and a pair of very small cleaner shrimp. I chose the cardinals because they are more open swimmers and the cleaner shrimp because I was hoping they would take to the eel. It's crazy to watch them with the eel, he knows to open his mouth and they clean him constantly, pretty cool. I would say what Rehype said is the norm, mine is 2 years old and has never eaten any tank mates but he's also very small so most inhabitants would be to large. Link to comment
matty0206
Well I got him some silversides and he gobbled one up with a quickness! I cut it in half because it seemed to big for him, can they eat larger ones or are smaller chunks better? Link to comment
matty0206
Well he's still in the tank and eating well. He does hide a lot but is getting more used to us, especially at feeding time! https://flic.kr/p/rDToit Link to comment
GT350pwns
I want one of these guys so badly but have to wait until I can set up a species tank. Beautiful eel! Link to comment
jestep
By far my favorite nano fish. I rehomed the pair I had when I sold by 28 gallon, but awesome fish. As long as they don't climb out, they're really hardy as long as they are eating. Mine both loved rods or lary's frozen. Link to comment
matty0206
Mine seems to have taken a liking to shrimp, he won't touch silversides anymore so I will stick with what he likes. It amazes me how blind they seem to be, I have to feed the tank first to get him interested in food and then keep holding it in front of him. This is a video I took of him eating last night. http://vid1176.photobucket.com/albums/x328/mattmclemore/Mobile%20Uploads/Video_zps9b860ce0.mp4 Link to comment
