What "grinds your gears"

So I see on the FB page along with here people asking questions and you give them a solid answer with facts to back it up and they have the audacity to call you out and say you are wrong despite they are asking the question or even better their friends come in saying the same dumb crap despite not knowing a thing......Despise ignorant reefers, no matter how hard you try to help them they will just ignore and go for the fail option and then cry about it.

Problem is people work themselves up about an idea. They come up with some screwball idea that they just can't let go. They make all sorts of plans in their heads about what they should do. They tell people about it, They buy stuff. Clear out a spot. Most probably dream about it (or at least it is the last thing they are thinking of before bed).

Then you come along. The voice of reason, experience. You tell them they are all wrong and that the thing they have been planing about, dreaming of, is whack. It just can't be! So they carry on and invariably do what they have been dreaming about all along. Of course they have to. It's just how it is for folks. It's not about you--or even them. Just human nature.

What grinds my gears? Nuthin. -_-

You forgot the picture :)

Priceless! totally forgot that pic!

And yes its with reef related stuff. I myself was doing a lot wrong when I first started but I read on here for MONTHS and months until I started to get it right and I continue to see more and more things I can do better or simpler.

Okay now that I know it's reef related :P

When people post their tank pics and it looks like a bottle of Windex. Ugh. Especially when it's for an ID.

OP: "What is this?"

/post blurry, grainy, tank full of windex and rocks

hahaha it totally reminds me of the "Bigfoot" footage or when they are "Ghost" hunting and despite HD cameras with night vision they still manage to have the footage of a old school shoulder camera from the 90's.

Led lights almost always look like crap.

In my response to this, it grinds my gears I can't figure out how to get this new camera to take a decent picture. My old one was fantastic... I guess I need to get batteries for it again, and figure out why I stopped using it. I can't even take a decent macro pic with it :(

LFS store when I was asking about small fish for my pico they suggested a cow fish.

I asked how big it gets - apparently 1 foot O.o. Why would you suggest such a creature for a 1.5 gallon tank?

What grinds my gears: not having much money to get the livestock I can have. Getting shafted at work.

MAP pricing on equipment. It stifles competition. The worst part about it is out of nowhere the manufacturer drops the price by $100. The price drop usually happens right after you buy it at full price.

You know what reeeeeaally grinds my gears!?

...the difficulty to get some of the coral that I want, and how hard people make it for you to buy it. Even those who are to sell them, supposedly because they love this hobby, make it a difficult process to get what you want, or even come in contact with them. They act as if having cool coral pieces is like joining a privileged club where only the "cool" kids can join, regardless of your hardwork and or availability of funds. As if making the money you ask for, in return for the thing that i desire, is so easy to come by. Just let me buy the damn coral that I so desire! take the money and go! LOL

'I setup my tank and now there's this brown stuff growing everywhere, what is it?'

'Thought I'd try saltwater so I went to the fish store bought a tank and filled it up all in the space of a week, what fish should I add?'

In other words, people who haven't bothered reading anything on the subject.

While we're on the subject people who don't haul ass when there's an emergency vehicle behind them - particularly an ambulance, the amount of times in London you see someone in a (usually) expensive car not moving out of the way fast they just have this look on their face like 'Oh....is someone dyeing behind me... I suppose I better move urgh'.

I hate people that don't use turn signals. I don't hate the fact that they didn't use the turn signal, I just hate the actual person.

You're not from California. I can tell.

Do that here, everyone will speed up to get into where you were going to turn to.

Its best just to turn or merge into where you want, then hit your blinkers, just to let the person who would have sped up to take your merge spot....

That you're thinking of them.

People who call clowns "Nemos" ohh GAHWD!!!!

Come on.

You've never said that to someone who asked "what kind of fish you have" in your FISH tank?

"Well, I have a Helfrinchi Firefish, a Flame Angel, a Coral Beauty, and a Blue Hippo Tang".

Blank stare. "Huh?"

"A Dory, Fish"

Eyes light up, "Cool".

The dynamics of this hobby grinds my gears sometimes. For example, when you think you have everything well thought out, you do it, and another dynamic you didn't consider somehow pops up and now you have to re-engineer,lol. I am experiencing that with my build right now, lol.

I also cannot STAND seeing people roast someone when they want to put a ( insert fish type here) into ( insert tank size here), and act like they are the biggest retard ever to walk the earth for wantign to do that to the poor fish. Then, see the same person/people that did the flaming looking at a member's,"Build Thread" where that memeber has the SAME fish in a similar tank, and comment on how AMAZING the tank looks etc. No mention of the tang in the 30 gallon cube..... thats bull IMHO. And then people on here wonder why other people don't listen to advice, lol.

People who say tank raised clownfish don't associate with anemones. They tend to suggest wild caught clowns, to newbies, if they want their clown to live in an anemone.

Also I love the LEDs don't grow coral argument. If you post your nice looking coral as an example, it gets picked apart because you aren't keeping X coral so you aren't a serious keeper.

I hate elitism and this hobby is rampant with it.

Well after reading this site for about a year and a half, I finally found something I can contribute and write my first post lol. I can say what has been grinding my gears and this goes for just about every hobby forum out there, is the newbie asking simple( possibly stupid) questions and seemingly not using the search function. But wait there's more... The part that gets me the most is it seems that there are ppl that just scroll through these post waiting just to say "use the search function" and then going on not answering the question just to write something along the line of I'm an elitist and how they are tired of typing the answer over and over. To me it is just as redundant to type use the search function as it is an answer. This pisses me off because when I USE the search function these post pop up and I'm still left trying to find an answer. I then spend hrs going through these threads that turn into useless post. Don't get me wrong I really like this site which is full of info ,and it has helped me tremendously and there are so many ppl that do take time to explain and I really appreciate them. And that's why I keep coming back so thank you to the ones that make this hobby a little easier.
