Is my finger leather dying?

I bought this leather last Friday. For the first few days in the tank it looked great and all of his polyps were out. it started drooping, which I looked up and seemed to be normal for leathers. However, this morning, it had come mostly off of the base rock it came on and doesn't seem to be doing that great.

It's been placed at the bottom of the tank (16" deep) directly under the light (Kessil 150) with light to medium flow on it.

Nitrites and ammonia are negligible to zero but nitrates are at about 15ppm -- I'm new to this and think I've been overfeeding trying to get a small longnose hawkfish to eat. The tank has been cycled for a little over two weeks.

Last note -- the coral doesn't smell, so I don't think it's dying/dead already.
