Lawnman
Enlighten us?Single junk float switch with a timed back up that fails. Even if the timed back up doesn't fail it will crash a small tank. It runs for 2-3 mins I forget the exact time. Then it dumps freshwater into the tank before it shuts down. Link to comment
zooman72
I am actually running 7 of these with no issues to note, so I am not so sure they are guaranteed to fail... Link to comment

But for 75 more dollars the OP will never have a problem. Running a 1 float switch ATO is like using the pull out method. It only takes 1 time. Link to comment

So far so good but yeah be nice to have some redundancy.... Link to comment

Well, I guess I better go to the gas station and pick up some protection, and then go order a 3155.... Just kidding, pretty good point though - I can definitely see the point of the redundancy, Just depends on where you want to put your dollars, ATO security is a pretty good one Link to comment

There are tons of cheaper options for double switch ATO's I had a great one from auto top off .com which never gave me a problem. I just try to buy quality fail proof equipment anymore. They are made of a ceramic material simlar to pump impellers. If there is rust on them it catches it from the water, ie GFO. Rust isn't bad for a reef anyway. Link to comment

I know rust is basically gfo or same material but when I had the nano in the tank everything started looking bad and when I tom it off everything turned around. I've seen the same thing with there cheaper power heads. I've seen a few of them start to rust and cause issue in the tank. Link to comment
StevieT
Tunze magnets don't rust. They use the same magnets in all of their products. This is how Tunze explains it: The magnets themselves are ceramic and cannot rust. They will however attract any iron particles which will rust. The two common scenarios are that the product was assembled where some iron particles were present, steel wool, iron filings, staples, etc and picked some up, or that an iron based phosphate remover was used and since this is essentially rust, it stuck to the magnet and caused a stain. If it wipes off with a scotch bright pad and minimal effort, this is the likely culprit. The magnets rest on an iron plate which is coated with polyurethane, typically if this is what is rusting, you will see a small area where the rust is very intense and usually a pin hole in the black polyurethane between the magnets at that point.
