Adding Chemipure and Purigen simultaneously?

Hello All,

I decided to ditch my chaeto in the rear section of my BC29 for a media rack where I will be doing the CPE (actually trying out Clear FX Pro for now), Purigen and floss on top. My question is, should I worry about removing the chaeto and then putting in the 100ml purigen and 225ml Clear FX Pro at the same time. The last thing I would like to do is shock the system by removing too much organic material. My tank has zero nitrate, nitrite, ammonia however I think my phosphates creeped up when I tried getting my fish to like pellets, however I have stopped feeding these pellets for now. Phosphates were .015 when I tested with a Hanna a few weeks ago but must have creeped up since I notice some stringy algae on the sand and some diatoms in a couple areas that was probably fueled by cleaning my dirty fuge area, pellets getting lost and breaking down and stirring up my sand too much during cleaning. Basically I am asking if I should maybe introduce one bag of media one day and then wait a couple days to add the other.

Thank you,

Landon

I would just replace the chaeto and the media rack with CPE and Purigen the same day if it were me because I don't see it being much of an issue but maybe wait till someone else chimes in because they may be more experienced.

I've have had no problems with changing the mediaball at the same time. It still takes time for the water chemistry to change with the new filtration so its like acclimation all over again but in the whole tank..

Thank you for the responses. I did not think it would be an issue either, at least I do not think that the media will really remove all of those nutrients all that quickly. I do 5 gallon water changes in a tank that probably has a total capacity of 20 gallons so I think that would be more effective at removing nutrients fast than using this media. I am going to do a water change and clean the fuge out and get this rack in tonight!
