RyNova
I am looking into getting a Nuvo 10 for my college apartment. Marine Depot has a "starters pack" that comes with a SKKYE Light 18 watt LED clamp. However, I can purchase the tank without the light for $100 cheaper. I was wondering what LED fixtures do you guys recommend, keeping it below $100? The aquarium is 12" in length. I would like to keep a couple SPS toward the top of my tank, but that isn't a priority. I like my softies more. Thanks! Link to comment
kwsjimmy
For the price their fixture is probably the best, nothing really in that price range that's better Link to comment
VW_TDI_02
This may be a bit out of your price range by $25 or so but I would look at getting a used Kessil 150. I saw one go for $110 about a week or two ago here. There was one that went for $135 and included the gooseneck. Link to comment
quiddmobile
an alternative option is a par38 bulb but its about the same price you can buy some used on the forums or craigslist or other online sites. here is a reputable seller: http://coralcompulsion.com/ Link to comment
RyNova
I will take a look at the above suggestions. Thanks! How is the Marineland LED Aquarium Light? http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=23550&rel=1 Is it known as a good fixture? Will it work for a simple reef? I haven't been around in the Reefing community for a while, so LED's are kinda new to me. EDIT: Looking at videos and reviews, it seems pretty bland and lacks good color. Link to comment
VW_TDI_02
I don't think that light could grow zoanthids... Link to comment

Reefkid88
Maybe look into the Reef Radiance Nano 60 light. The Coral Compulsion Par38 would be your best bet,or look into the RapidLed Par38 I think it's only like $87 shipped. Link to comment
edd29
I have a Coral Compulsion Par38. I do recommend it. I got it mostly due to the 3 year warranty that it offers. Link to comment

Where did you get the light clamp? How much was it? And is this the light you have? http://coralcompulsion.com/led-36w-20k-Full Link to comment

If you are using an enclosed fixture to house that lamp, you are not allowing the heatsink to properly cool it - LED Par lamps like that need to be used with fixtures that do not cover the heatsink, or you run the risk of overheating the lamp and shortening its lifespan. And is this the light you have? http://coralcompulsion.com/led-36w-20k-Full The lamp is somewhat DIY. Grabbed an IKEA Lamp, unscrewed the base, then clamped it down. I placed some tape around the pole so I wouldn't scratch the metal in case I want to use the lamp again. The bulb is actually the 22k SuperBlu but I am sure the 24w is sufficient for the tank. I also agree with zooman72 with the risk of overheating the 24w bulb. I took the 35w bulb because it is fan cooled, which gave me the ability to have the enclosed fixture. My LFS runs them the same way without any issues. Hope this helps! Link to comment
