Markburns43
Curently switched to a 20 long just a tank transfer! But the 10 gallon lives on, as a lagoon inspired low cost low tech build. 10 gallon was taken down on 2/8/17 and merged with my 20 long. Link to comment
Markburns43
So this is where I sit and wait ,., patiently. I like leaving the light on but I know it will fuel algea growth, but I'm kinda interested since I want to beable handle the situation with my other tank, well thanks for looking. Link to comment
Markburns43
Well I finally got my water test kit back tonight and decided to see where I stand. Ph. 8.2 Dkh 9 Ammonia 1 ppm ! Getting some where Phosphate 0 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 0 Salinty 1.025 ~ 1.024 Evaporations a bitch but ill apprieciate it when I have an ato on my other build lol And I'm still debating before I get to far in to keep running my light, any positives with running it in the cycle? Slowtwitch
Any macro algae on your live rock will appreciate the lights being left on while you cycle. Of course the cyano and gha will too... Link to comment
Markburns43
I suppose I should limit my lighting, as much as I love algea an over abundance is something ill try and avoid then. Link to comment
ProtectDa2nd
Pre programed timer 2 on the orbit marine would be nice (if your still using it) only 7 hours of low to medium lighting. More of an aclamation but would be nice for what your doing. Link to comment
Markburns43
Accually that's what i have it on, I also changed it so it only comes on for when I'm home after work then bed time. I hope its an equal trade off lol. Any stocking plans yet for your tank? just wanted to share my planted tank. Its been running for almost a year and has been changed around more than my girlfriends outfit in a night Link to comment

Just slapped on the orbit lighting went ahead and upgraded my pump went with a jaboe wp10 its working really nice. CUC comes in tomorrow and i got my LFS to order me a pair of black clowns as a start! Pretty fired up about all the changes this week. Finally get some life in my tank . O and i built my fuge! not set up with tank yet though. Link to comment
Markburns43
Ya I know the feeling, I'm almost cycled this will be my 8th day and I'm waiting on my nitrates to kick in, I'm hoping another few days, I also pre ordered a cuc from reefcleaners with some macro algea as well. Tell me more about this refugium! My other tank that's waiting for its time , I got a cpr aquafuge medium mp pretty sweet. But I like the diy route majority of time but couldn't pass it up for free from store credit on stuff I traded in. I was wondering would two clowns get two big for a 10? Or are you going to be upgrading later on? How bout some coral? Also I'm kinda liking the light for what it is, can't wait to friggin get a couple corals under it Link to comment
ProtectDa2nd
I just added my CUC all seems to be well my florida ceriths havnt really came alive to much but they have barnacals on their backs. Pretty cool to watch them come out and swipe their legs in the water! You know I almost got the cpr too, I just hate seeing a bunch of equipment in the main display so I built my fuge. Took a 10g gallon and made some baffles for my diy setup. Its really nice bc my fuge is also gonna be a Display tank, they are going to be running side by side! Ill uplaod a pic here soon and show you it. All the equipment (pump, skimmer, heater ect) are going to be behind my main baffle wich is black so everything is going to be hidden and look really nice. Prolly put a couple live rocks in their and grow some maiden's hair aka turtle weed on the rock. Ive done a ton of reading on the pair of clowns being in smaller tanks, there is so many different opinions.. i'm all for treating your livestock right so if I find that the tank is to small I will go down to one. Most likely end up upgrading my main tank to a bigger size sooner than later. For coral I think im going to start out with some polyps, torch, anything bright and pops! Yes the orbit light is a huge upgrade from what I had before only been a couple of days but you can tell everything in the tank is way happier. Link to comment
Markburns43
Dude that's awsome. I'm gonna keep this one simple for the time being, I never could get approval for another 10 gallon side by side in the bedroom lol. Right now I'm starting to get alittle diatom growth so that's a good sign for now. I'm gonna try some different torches and zoas, just gonna take it slow , this is more of a test drive per say. And ya post up the set up its gonna be sweet. Link to comment
ProtectDa2nd
Found this build from a guys cube fuge I seen on a forum. Hope it all works well I still have to drill intake and outtake holes, silicone, plumb it into my main. Link to comment
Markburns43
Yeah I knew exactly what you were building that's cool as hell. That back chamber will be slick to hide all the filtration but have a refugium like display, that's what's going under my larger tank. Accually you gave me some motivation today I did a mock fit into my display tanks stand, I have to lower my middle shelf and throw some supports under it. Do you have your own rodi unit? Debating on getting one soon. And for drilling I'd like to practice on my spare 10 gallon. Before I drill my other tank. Been looking around on line any one know if fluvals m series tanks are non tempered? Link to comment
ProtectDa2nd
I don't I just go to a foodlion or walmart and get these 2.5 gallon of ro water, always try to keep 2 of them on standby. Use 1 every week for my water changes. So thats like 25%. Its cheap i spend like 5 bucks a week. As far as drilling I just practiced on a bunch of scrape pieces. It's not hard just got to do it slow and make sure you have water on the bit. From everything I've read or searched almost all smaller tanks only have a tempered bottom Or not tempered at all. I emailed aqeon and doubled checked for my tanks. Link to comment
Markburns43
That's good to know. Thankd man, i highly doubt my other tank is tempered becuase now I'm thinking about it the hottom is allready drilled for a drain, jist not the size I want lol Link to comment
Markburns43
Little update, stopped by the lfs last night I picked up some filtering media, little phosguard and some renew, any good? I will most likely start using boyd product when things get settled any input on media would be a plus. I'm currently running poly filter then a media rack which I have some matrix and and renew in . I also bought some cheato and to my surprise I got some hitchnhikers. I found a sort of hermit, a turbo grazer and some little black snails that look like trumpet snails but there on the rocks. I also did 2 gallon water change today, as I'm nearing the end of my cycle I am starting to for more diatoms, and the grazer is loving it, anything inperticuliar a hermit likes to eat ? different hair algaes and scavenging? Markburns43
Here's a better picture with blue at 25 percent for quality. Still thinking about two corals to start with preferably a hammer and some zoas, I like the unsual. Parameters as follows Ph 8.2 rock steady Kh 7-8 Nh3 0 No2 .25ppm had a spike a couple days ago at 5 ppm Nitrate 5 ppm Livestock 1 turbo grazer named Bo 1 hermit named franklin Ahahhahah surprisingly doing well and not annoyed by water parameters Frank is a ball of fire tongs go in and he grabs his peice of algea wafer he's loving it So I will wait hooefully by saturday everything will be settling and I can atleast pick one coral from The farmers market going on at the high school, anything I should keep an eye out for that fits the billnwith some lps? And zoas?? Link to comment
ProtectDa2nd
Its all really up to you I like the hammers myself. I got me a black clown and he is just awesome. Stays playing in my wave maker. I wanted a hermit but I read a lot about how they will murder your snails for the shells. Parameters are looking pretty good man. As far as all your filter media i'm not really sure, i'm still new to the game myself so i don't have a lot of personal exp with them all. Tanks looking good tho! I enjoy hopping on here and seeing someone else's tank grow too! Link to comment
aquarium
Your 10 gallon already looks better than mine!!! but seriously, nice job. I cant wait to see it all stocked up. Link to comment

I am working on building a diy led fixture though, and I will see what I like then. The link to my thread is in my signature. I have not detectable nitrates in my tank, so I hope the algae will start subsiding. I will be following your thread! Link to comment
