Oceanic Biocube 29 General Questions

So I am just about ready to finish setting up my used OC Biocube 29. I have tried to read a lot of info but sometimes I just feel the need to just state my case and ask questions.

I followed a guide on here and made a replacement splash guard. It did not come out perfect, but it works and is better than the cracked yellow one that was there. Honestly most people would probably not be able to tell it was homemade LOL. I also followed another guide on here and made my own media basket. This is still a work in progress but pretty much done. I will say if it were not for my desire for DIY, and had there been free shipping, I prob would have gone the inTank route. They should also look at making the splash guards. It was like $10 is acrylic and some glue.

I also retrofitted the lights. I gutted out the original lights and replaced them with two Ecoxotic Panromas and one Ecoxotic Stunner. I am really not looking to do anything difficult, but I would like some corals. Also using a single ramp timer.

For pumps, I have kept the original water pump for now. I added the attachment from Hydor that spins the output. I like it. I looked up information on it and figured it was beneficial. Although just like Freshwater aquariums, I am finding there is a lot of diverse opinions out there. I also added a 425 hydor circ pump. Water movement seems nice. I do not see any dead spots, but then again I do not even have sand or live rock in there yet. I just filled it up with tap water to test everything.

I have a few questions though. First being if anyone sees any potential issues with my setup, or if I am missing anything. My second question is about my heater. I have a 100w aqueon heater. But I am finding it difficult to find a place to put it. I removed the false botton from the second chamber inthe back. I thought it would be a good idea to put it in the first chamber, but I do not see a way to remove the bottom there. Where are others putting their heaters? My third question, is how much sand will I need and live rock?

Any comments or suggestions are much appreciated. Thanks!

With an enclosed lid, you could get easily away with using a smaller heater. An inch of sand would be good (I'm guessing that'd be about 15lbs of dry sand), you might want to search some BioCube threads to see what others have done. For live rock, 20lbs should be fine.
