catzo
I just put my first corals in the tank yesterday, some zoas and a small frogspawn. I've read some threads that say feeding them isnt necessary, thoughts? And should I be dosing the tank with any kind of nutrients? Link to comment
tibbsy07
It's not necessary to feed any photosynthetic coral, which is pretty much any coral we keep (with a few exceptions) in the hobby. Feeding helps them overall, but 95% of their energy requirements comes from photosynthesis. So no, you don't have to feed or dose. Link to comment
tk3445
i just feed my fish cyclopeeze/mysis. the cyclopeeze is small enough for most zoas and palys to snag a piece and close up. I wouldn't go out of my way to dose anything. keeping up on your weekly 10-15% or bi weekly 20-25% changes are far more important to your fish and coral health than anything you can dose in a nano tank. Just my $0.02 Link to comment
PiscesFish
I feed my corals just to help them grow faster, otherwise they would be fine with photosynthesis. I dose my tank with calcium once a week, but that's because I have a decent amount of LPS and 2 SPS and 1 clam. So dont worry about dosing, your water changes will help you with that just fine. Bingo1213
If you have extremely low nutrients you will have to feed them or they will die off. If you have low nitrates they should be self-sufficient Link to comment
Thomas898
Feed the frogspawn, Zoas are debateable. The two frogs I have grow much larger and have much better polpy extension when fed vs no feeding and having them survive on nitrates and light alone. You wont need to dose anything if they are the only corals and you are doing water changes of at least 10% a week. Good luck! Link to comment
