Some sort of coral?

Not really sure where to start with this...

This came on a piece of live rock I bought from the LFS and I didn't really notice it. However, since it's been in the tank and under some lighting, it seems to have gained more color and also looks like it is bleaching in one spot that is hidden from the light. What is it, and should I rearrange the rock?

Thanks!

I have something that looks very similar- short 1mm brown hairs. Mine came on florida live rock. Person at LFS said it was a type of encrusting coral but didnt know any thing else.

Looks like a type of star coral. If you want it to live you need to turn the rock over so it can get some light. I've got some with florescent green tentacles.

Cool stuff! I'd keep it in low light for now, and then probably acclimate it to the normal amount of light, if it's bleaching a bit. Definitely a scleractinid of sorts.

Yeah, it has very very short brown hairs. I've flipped the rock and it seems to be regaining some color. Only time will tell how it does.

Thanks for all the replies!
