marklar1
This is my first time using the forums. So, hope I am doing this right. I have a weird algae that I have growing in my tank. I have tried everything to get rid of it. I have killed it off twice by dosing it with peroxide. It all turned white and went away for about three weeks, now it is coming back again. I'm having a hard time finding it on the internet. A friend suggested it could be a caulerpa fern algae. I've had my tank going for about a year. I have a 29 oceanic bio-cube with about 30 pounds of live rock, a cleaner shrimp, and some crabs and snails for now. The tank is the basement, so it is not in direct sunlight at all. I have the lights going for about 8 hours a day and I change about 5 gallons of water a month. I have a spectra-pure R.O.D.I. unit for the water changes. Any suggestions on what I can do to get rid of this for good? I will include some pics. thanks. Link to comment

brandon429
It took a year of repeated work to get red gelidium out of my tank I thought it'd never stop but finally, finally as of a few years now At least we are dealing with an obligate hitchhiker That presents an interesting kill strategy, once eradicated it cannot come back until physically reimported. This is not the case with gha and cyano. They can get in anytime through multiple mechanisms Holdfasts in the rock from untreated areas remain to regrow Has your peroxide ever been drain and treat, or emersed treated rock? I ask because in tank dosing with full water works sometimes, but is the weakest method for use due to dilution. But your potential bryopsis and my gelidium...even though a hassle once killed we got em Can you post fts I want to see other details corals etc Link to comment
ndrobey
Do the peroxide thing again, same as before. But this time, cover the area the bryopsis was on with super glue. This will seal it off to prevent it from regrowing. Link to comment
GokesReef
Yeah looks like it could be bryopsis. If it's more than that area, check out dosing the tank with Kent-M mag, that's what took care of it in my old tank. Also, turbo snails. Link to comment

Andrew_Reef90g
The best thing to do for bryposis is to do a complete black out. Black the tank out completely for a few days. Link to comment
Cencalfishguy56
I'd say up water changes too every two weeks Link to comment
CronicReefer
My cure for bryopsis is to keep your phosphates as close to 0.000 as possible. I have always been always to get rid of my bryopsis this way with just removal by hand. Maybe not the best way to eradicate but it has always worked for me, plus my SPS colors look great with low phosphates. Link to comment
