can bubble tips kill clowns?

I got a green bubble tip and a pair of ocellaris clowns a few weeks ago. They have had nothing to do with the anemone before. Thursday/Friday I noticed one of the pair of clown wasn't eating much. Just hanging out in the same spot. Yesterday to my surprise it was nesseled up in anemone. Originally thought it was dead since it was just laying still in it. Then it got up and swam around in it to another spot and layed down. This morning I find the clown surrounded by a group of hermits on the bottom of the tank.

Being that it just started hosting it yesterday, could the anemone have over stung the clown? I have read they build up an immunity to the stings. Could the hosting of the nem / building up immunity lowed its own immunity and allowed some other factor (illness) for it to die? The previous coulple days of not eating much.

Thanks for any insight.

Unlikely the nem given the clowns behaviour, what are your water parameters, how have you acclimatised the clowns?

The clown sounds like it was sick before and then found the nem for shelter as it was stressed/needing refuge. Not eating is a normal indicator of a very sick fish, once they get to the stage of not eating there's normally not much that can be done for them as you can't get their strength up to fight the illness.

water parameters are where they should be. Even did a 10% water change Friday just to make sure.

Clowns were acclimated in a 2 hour drip process.

Might just have been unlucky with a ill fish. Watch your remaining stock for signs of illness. I had a velvet break out the other week that took out 12 of my 13 fish. Started with one dying unexpectedly with out signs of illness on the Friday, then I was loosing 3-5 fish a day over a weekend. It wasn't fun.

An anemone can kill a clownfish with its sting to be upfront about it. However your case sounds more like they had an internal parasite that no one could have seen coming.
