4g dwarf pony oasis

Hello nano refers so after 3 yrs after my seahorses died from me not plugging back their pump I've finally took the plunge and set up a future habitat for 6 dwarf ponies.

NOTE! The day I forgot to plug in the pump was actually the day my twins were born hence I was in a super rush when my wife's water broke. Anyway so the tank of my choice is a nuvo Pico 4 with stock lights. I figure the lights would be sufficient for macro and some softies. Here's some pics of the LR I chose.

And after about an hr this is what I came up with

How long has the tank been set up? In the 2nd picture it looks like it's been established for a while

Is that what this tank used to look like or what it currently looks like?

The second pic is my other tank, running about 1.2 yrs, that I'll be taking corals from to fill the Pico tank. I'm going to go pretty slow so that the Pico has a better chance of producing proper bacteria and what not.

I picked out dry rock and one flat live rock as to not breed any unwanted pest.

Ahh I see, I should have noticed the difference in rockwork

The rockwork in the pico looks awesome btw!

Thank you I'm trying to have the illusion of a big tank when in fact it's a pico. So I'll be super selective of what I'll be putting in the tank, which makes it a little more challenging.

I should rename the title bonsai tank. Your tanks are nice especially the 3g.

nice tank! i like the caves a lot... thinking about dwarf sseahorses in my currently cycled and empty 5g sitting at my desk.

I had a question though, what do you mean by "melt" on the macro? I've had some in my tank basically turn white and desinigrate(especially calepora). Maybe that's what you mean?

edit : and by tank I mean my 20g that's pretty established but highish nitrates (20-40)

Looks nice! For the macroalgae, maybe taking it a little easy on the aquarium light would do them well, as well as using a rubber band to secure the algae to the rock for a few weeks, if they're not physically attached yet. Otherwise, I'd say it looks pretty nice. Can't wait to see it continue!

I've have macros just wilt away like mush....

Actually the light is pretty low intensity but it'll suffice.

How many gallons is that beauty?

It's a 4 gallon but more so 3g total volume

I got some macro from a local store and I started putting zoas to add some life to this sad tank...

Thanks for the comments. I'm actually excited to see how this turns out. Oh and I seeded the tank with a fish bag full of live pods so by the time I get ponies they'll have plenty of food to Mac on... Enjoy!!!!

So a buddy of mine hooked me up with a pair of black tunicates on the right as your looking at the tank and they are pretty cool. They open an close as you go near the tank. I'm also glad that the zoas are starting to open as well as the gsp. So far so good for macros not wilting...

Tank looks great! I would just be careful about what you put in your tank. Dwarves are very sensitive and even minor stings can kill them. The risk of keeping them in a tank with liverock is that you'll end up with hydroids or other hitchhikers that can hurt them because they are so small. Because of this most people choose to keep them in an almost completely sterile environment. Seahorse.org is a great place to get info on dwarves in their dwarf forum.

Great rock work! Looks fantastic.

I have one of these tanks too and love it. It's been running for two years, but it's time to upgrade the lights on it. They keep things going, but not really flourishing.

Looking forward to seing what you do with it!

I would say 97% of the rock I used was dried up rock and one rock that was essentially live was added. Sand was dry as well. I think I was cooking these materials in San diego sun for about a year, pretty much forgot them, then put to use when a buddy hooked me up with the tank and stand for 50 bucks. I'm most definitely going slower than I would like. I usually go instant reef tank and voila tank with inhabitants but I rather see my future ponies happy with no issues. I'll upgrade the lights down the road but for now they'll pass. I'm letting things just grow and see where things anchor themselves. I put in a bunch of random mushrooms, zoas, and macro in the tank and for the most part they seem happy. Cyno not to big of a problem but I do have swarms of pods so that's a good indicator. STAY TUNED folks my tank should start coming together.... hoping....
