Gamby's Fusion 10 Build

After a long break (almost 15 years) from the hobby, I have decided to take the plunge back in with an IM Fusion 10 tank. I have spent the last month and a half gathering the necessary equipment and building a stand. I have leak tested and am just about ready to go.

My system is as follows:
Tank: IM Fusion 10
Stand: DIY - Waterfall bubinga hardwood and veneer with granite top
Media: InTank media basket with floss and Chemi-Pure Blue
Heater: Cobalt Neo-Therm 50 watt
ATO: AutoAqua Smart ATO
Lighting: Nano Box Tide with Storm controller. The storm will be replaced with the Bluefish mini when available.
Flow: RW-4 with wave control, IM Spin stream nozzle added.
Controller: Neptune Apex with temp and PH probe
Water: Spectrapure RO/DI
Skimmer: IM Ghost - Added 2/28/15
Mini Oxydator - Added 3/14/15

I would like to get some input on rock. I would like to use cured live rock as apposed to dry rock so that I can start with some life on the rock. I am considering the following on-line suppliers. Please let me know if you have any experience with any of these suppliers:
www.sealifeinc.net
www.realreefrock.com
www.premiumaquatics.com
www.tampabaysaltwater.com
www.gulfliverock.com

I am leaning towards Seal Life or Premium Aquatics.

Thanks in advance for the input!

:welcome: to the club! Way back in the day I used about 2 lbs of Premium Ultra Fiji Cured Live Rock from premium aquatics, it was the bomb so I can recommend it without hesitation. I really like that stand! If there is one thing I would do differently with my DIY stand, is I would make it a larger footprint and enclose it too. More pics as stuff comes in! B)

Its wet!

I had some trouble with my Apex. The screen just went dark. Apex support was able to walk me through a fix. A big thumbs up for Apex support. First class!

Interesting note on the IM Fusion 10 tank....

The Fusion 10 tank only hold about 7.5 gallons of water before adding sand and rock. That includes the sump area. The actual outside dimensions of the entire tank would hold 10 gallons (if it was possible).

Yep, with my rock and sand in there I only put in about 6.8 gallons total. :(

  • 2 weeks later...

It has been two weeks since I added my rock. Ammonia and nitrite were at 0 last Saturday so I decided to go to the frag fest to see if I could find any deals. Even though I would have liked to let the tank just run for another week, the frag fest is but once a year. I did a 3 gallon water change and installed my ghost skimmer.

I picked up a nice zoa and a small clown fish. I also decided to get rid of the aptasia in my tank, about six in all. I used Joe's juice which worked pretty good. I followed the aptasia removal with another water change on Monday.

I am starting to get some brown alge and the lfs said to just wait it out. Since I am running Chemi-pure Blue, i am thinking about adding a GFO. Maybe Seachem Phosnet.

I am thinking about addings some snails and maybe a small crab this weekend. I may also rework my rock placement when I do a water change this weekend.

Added an emerald crab and some sand sifting snail this weekend.

I also rearranged my rocks for better presentation and more available space to add corals.

Tonight I found another crab living in my sand. It must have been a hitchhiker on my rock.

Im curious because i have almost the same setup.....did you upgrade your return pump and what do you run the rw-4 on?

I am running on the W1 lowest setting. I had it turned up higher but it seemed to cause trouble for my clown fish.

I took a trip Tidal Gardens and added some new friends this weekend. I also have a few more coming next weekend from the online sale.

The following were added:

A green tip frogspawn

A yellow/green cabbage leather

And a cool eagle eye zoa

That's some nice rock! You can really see the quality with the pics you took using flash. Is that the premium or coralline stuff they sell? Tempted to throw out what I have and start with that stuff, my tank is still cycling.

I welt with the premium. I am pretty happy with it. Got a few hitchhikers, some good some not so good. The biggets not so good has been some aptasia.

I am trying to decide what to add next. Maybe somthing that can survive higher up on the rock with higher flow. I added a purple tip frogspawn and a green hairy mushroom that I purchased from the Tidal Gardens live sale last weekend.

Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

Great looking tank. I've purchased from Gulf Live Rock before and they always send some "Lively" pieces. Haha

My first casualty.

It looks like my ricordea is on its way out. While it's colors looked bright and vibrant, it just keeps shrinking. Everything else in the tank seems to be doing great. I made the mistake of gluing the frag to the live rock so it is going to be a pain in the can to remove the frag disc with the withering ricordea.

You can try moving the ric lower down or putting it in partial shade. My yuma rics weren't happy under direct light.
