Steensj2004
Need opinions on the sump, here is a sketch. Looking at overflow on the left hand side( as facing tank). Overflow in to far left chamber of sump, which is also skimmer compartment. Center compartment is the return/probe compartment. Far right chamber will be refugium. The return will be,"Y" off to the reactor/s and the outlet will go into the refugium, which then overflows into return chamber. Link to comment
Steensj2004
BRS hasn't shipped my stuff and it's been 4 days, think ill use LFS and Marinedepot from here on out. One coat clear on stand, very little distressing done, the odd stain pattern is growing on me: Gonna grab a 20L and start sump tomorrow Link to comment
Ianfaulk
your sketch looks pretty good, just make sure you see how much room the skimmer needs before you install the baffles. I didn't take into account for the arm that was on my skimmer and almost made the chamber too small, I just got lucky. Link to comment

Steensj2004
Need to paint the inside of my stand, want to do White, suggestions on what to use? I wanted to use liquid rubber, but it is pricey. Link to comment
Steensj2004
Dear Bulk Reef Supply, I will never order anything from you again. This is the second time I have ordered from you and you have messed up my order. My address on my invoice is correct, why would you put 748 instead of 784, not once, but TWICE now? Link to comment

Ianfaulk
Looking good, let me know how the skimmer works. I've got to get a new one for my Solana. Link to comment
Steensj2004
Built sump tonight, all but one baffle installed, will install that tomorrow. Started with a few baffles after plotting positions on side of the tank(helped square up baffles): Next I installed PVC spacers for Plenum: Then cut eggcrate and siliconed on top( there will be fine plastic screen installed before Deep Sand bed is installed): Some pics of where I was before I started dinner: Link to comment

Steensj2004
Derimm the sump I did it to mine just need a heat gun and a ton of sharpe razors Excuse my ignorance, why de-rim the sump? I'm wary of removing the support from the factory. Even with the baffles siliconed keeping it from bowing, I dunno if I trust my silicone job, lol! Link to comment
NorthGaHillbilly
Your deep sandbed makes me terribly frightened, but over all, aside from that, Im really digging your build. Looking forward to seeing more. Yall did a great job on the stand, moved one it QUICK too Link to comment

Looking forward to seeing more. Yall did a great job on the stand, moved one it QUICK too I suppose DSB isn't accurate....it might be 2-3" deep maybe. For me, anything over 1" is deep, lol. I used this same method with my last sump, only I had 1 baffle for the return, the whole thing was a plenum and 4" sandbed. No issues, 0 nitrates the whole time I had the system after cycle. Why the concern about the DSB? We did move quickly, there are a laundry lists of things we learned, as well as things we would do differently next time around. On specific thing is because of the nature of pine, I would use a sealer/conditioner before I stained next time for a better finish. I distressed this one( beat it with bolts etc) and it turned out well. I am a freak for details, and with things like the silicone job in the sump, the slop drives me NUTS. I might even scrape the silicone and start over..... Thanks for the kind words and thanks for following along!!! Link to comment
Steensj2004
Sump completed, skimmer fits just right! This thing is nice! Also, the rest of mah goodies came in the mail! Tomorrow, install board for Apex, trim screen on eggcrate plenum, and consider plumbing. Considering drilling another hole for return in rear, concerned about no emergency drain....... Spiderguardnano
What's going on the right side? Link to comment
Steensj2004
Refugium, with a plenum. Zero water movement and low oxygen, great for de-nitrafying(sp?)bacteria, kept my last system at zero nitrates the whole time after cycle, there will be a 3" sand bed on top. Last plenum took up 80% of the sump, hoping this one is big enough. What's going on the right side? Link to comment
Steensj2004
Screen trimmed. On a side note, bravo to Digital Aquatics for revamping their float switch kit! Quality increase 10 fold, and the black is a huge bonus over the clear! Link to comment
plainrt
Thanks, man. Tough crowd around here nowadays, not much traffic on this build, lol Don't gotta tell me. I'm kind of just gonna ease off posting in my build. If you don't have tits and not a post whore no one looks at anyways. Link to comment

Steensj2004
Apex board complete! In retrospect I should have also sanded the face smooth, but whatever..... Started by mapping out what I wanted for placement: Then cut holes for cords with hole -saw.... Next used a router to round inner edges of holes(prevent chafing) both front and back. I debated how to make the inside edges of the holes safer for cables, thought about grommets etc, decided on this.Worked like a champ, I also rounded the putter edges of the board. Painted, now waiting for it to dry so I can install!! Link to comment
Steensj2004
Got the Controller board up, turned out pretty well! Front: Back: Installed: Controller Display installed on right hand side: Link to comment
