So I finally thought better late than never to start a thread on my tank, has been up and running for a while now (around 8 months) but never got around to starting a thread to share anything, and thank everyone for the awesome advice I’ve received I initially new knowing about salt water when setting up originally. Tank was intended for use as a freshwater I am sure, but after a long chat with some very helpful staff at LFS, and the long time spent researching info on here, I decided to give it a go and see if I would be able to run a successful marine set up out of it. Pretty happy with the results so far. Currently running an 18 gallon tank with no skimmer or sump. 15% water changes per week. Dosing Brightwell Calc 5ml, Alk 5ml, Potas 3ml and Mag 3ml per day Corals and fish are fed a blend of frozen foods. Thomas898
This was the first attempt at fragging zoas, growth isn't as fast as I'd like but patience is the key right??Trachy! Everyone always says it looks like a UFO Best hitchhikers ever! Scutus snails. Lost one for unknown reasons, but these things are a lawnmower for algae. Clowns and their meat coral. Ugliest thing to use as a host... Lol. Link to comment
amphipod
Looks awsome, nice and clean. Also lol looks like the amphipods are camera shy, I only ever see mine at night or when I move the algae around lol. Keep up the good work at the ZOA's and other corals, love the meat coral, name fits well. Patience is key with any stony coral. Link to comment

Will try and get a picture of the mass of them that run around the sand when lights are back on, wish I never saw them lol Link to comment
amphipod
They run like a pack of mini soldiers going to attack, with entertaining acrobatics, alien looking claws and legs and upside down swimming. Link to comment
Thomas898
Need some help finding out what this little thing is. I believe it came in from a zoa frag. It has no skeleton. I've had a few people suggest Kenya tree, however, it is a completely singular polyp that isn't actually attached to anything. It moves around the rock work by inflating it's body and letting the current carry it, and doesn't settle anywhere, just sits for the day while lights are on then is in a different spot the next morning. I can feed it pieces of meat around the size of a tic tac which it happily accepts, so I was a bit confused as to an ID. And this is a side view. Link to comment
amphipod
Reminds me of some sea cucumber's heads, it is probably some echinoderm. Maybe some species of basket star Link to comment
Dryland
Nice! I like your taste in coral. Your tank makes me want to get some goniopora. Link to comment

Thomas898
And the latest addition. Red Fromia Star. Acclimated him for 1 hour using drip acclimation, and he's been cruising around the tank removing algae film since. Has yet to discover that there is live rock in the tank, and was on the back wall for most of yesterday (back has never been cleaned and has a permanent algae film that gets eaten constantly). amphipod
Plenty of food for our 5 legged friend, he's probably so occupied with the slime there he couldn't possibly imagine any better place Have you seen the stomach yet? Link to comment

Either that or he's afraid of the amphipod invasion going on in my tank. They've discovered the buffet wall at the back too If by stomach you mean a blob squished against the glass that came from it's centre, then yes. Was wondering what that was! Link to comment
amphipod
That's a good sign he's got the stomach coming out, a weird way they eat lol. Link to comment

To be honest, apart from the info on this site I had no idea what I was doing with this tank so go for it haha. Great tank, I enjoyed the picture of the clowns hosting in the meat coral. To be honest, apart from the info on this site I had no idea what I was doing with this tank so go for it haha. If you want any, I have a few. Just ideas to make the tank shine out even more. 1. I am assuming the big pink thing in the top back right is a Euphyllia coral (I think it's a frogspawn). If it is, I would highly recommend moving your other frogspawn (in the top left) right next to the pink one. While frogspawn is aggressive, it won't sting itself to death, so that would probably free up some prime real estate in the upper left region of the tank, which probably gets lots of light and flow. Maybe even place an SPS there, who knows....also, lower flow helps reduce the tendency of Euphyllia to get the sweeper tentacles which it uses to attack neighboring corals. And I have a feeling the Euphyllia cluster would look super cool. 2. Maybe GSP or encrusting sponge to sort of carpet the empty spots of the rockwork? 3. Maybe get a little clown goby or a neon goby pair? Idunno, liven it up a little? Just my suggestions now, otherwise I think everything looks excellent. I look forward to seeing this tank progress! I look forward to seeing this tank progress! 1 - Sure is a frogspawn. I've considered placing them together before but was warned it would end in disaster due to one being wall and one being branching. LFS has some really nice full grown SPS colonies for only like $40 - $50 so that could definitely be an option. 2 - Definitely need something for the rock work! I would ideally like to avoid GSP though, I love the carpet look but can't be bothered dealing with it overgrowing the spaces when the time comes. I've already got the Xenia for that lol. What do you reckon about covering the space with zoas? I'm growing a few frags out in a separate tank ATM and have been thinking either trade them at LFS or put into display? 3 - Have actually been waiting for my LFS to get a goby that I like, found a pistol shrimp hitchhiker a few weeks back and he looks like he needs a friend! Thanks for the suggestions I like the sound of a Euphyllia cluster especially, just don't want any of them killing each other. Link to comment
