12_egg_Omelette
So out of curiosity I'm just wondering how many people don't run media baskets with chemi pure elite, perigean and filter floss? I had my first nano reef back in 2005 and just got back in and it seems that everyone is doing this. Has water changes and just live fall by the wayside? I keep thinking keep it as simple as possible, but either this is a significant improvement or a lot of hype. Which one I'm not exactly sure since I haven't had experience in all the chemical filtration. Link to comment
StevieT
What kind of communist are you not running a media bucket? Water changes are still very important with a media basket Link to comment

Jackal_Knight
Hell yeah, I just dump a bunch of chemi pure elite in my tank. Keeps my water wetter and my fish live forever. Who does water changes anymore that's so 2005. Link to comment
Nano sapiens
'Natural' with WCs...and a good maintenance schedule Link to comment

12_egg_Omelette
I just don't want to over filter and have it to clean for coral growth. Link to comment
StevieT
The media basket keeps your chambers cleaner preventing nitrates and makes maintenance on whatever media you run easier. Even chaeto. Link to comment
farkwar
I just hooked up a media server. And it rocks. Link to comment
StevieT
Do you have to tip her? I just hooked up a media server. And it rocks. Link to comment
Nor_Cal_Cuber
I just hooked up a media server. And it rocks. You are behind the times. I run no media racks, just organized live rock and chaeto in the 2nd chamber with carbon and phosphate reducers as filter pads. Link to comment
StevieT
Enjoy nitrates No live rock in rear chambers. Link to comment
Partially Submerged
I use foam, ceramic rings, and activated carbon in my filter, but without a media basket. I suspect the water does not flow through the filter media perfectly, but the number of sh1ats given is very close to zero. Link to comment
RK_tek
Filter sock, BM 3.5 and water changes when I remember them. Total volume ~40g Link to comment
Eckozulu
I think it's safe to say, A LOT of people do both. I don't think you can make your water too clean, unless running a ULNS with biopellets, zeo, or just overdosing vodka or GFO. Link to comment
LongDoggy
I run a DIY media rack. Seems to be working. Link to comment
Nor_Cal_Cuber
Enjoy nitrates No live rock in rear chambers. I run rocks back there for critters to nest in. Not many.... I don't let them build up with waste, that have good flow on them. How is it any different then having LR in DT? System is nitrate free. Link to comment
