Jebao or Koralia?

Looking to get a wave controller. I'm stuck between getting a single Jebao RW-4 or a Hydor Wave Maker with two 425 gph Koralia powerheads. This would be going in a 20 long with mostly soft corals and a few LPS corals. The Hydor would be a little bit more expensive but would give me a powerhead on each side as opposed to the single Jebao. Thoughts?

Think of the physics of 2 PHs pointed at each other and try to determine how they would have to alternate to get a wave going compared to one on one side of your tank that just pumps on/off - then consider cost. Both are probably fine options, but I would probably go with the RW-4 for cost savings and to have less equipment in your tank.

THe RW-4 puts out a LOT of water, in my experience. Put it on one end of your 20L and have it blast the other direction. Boom. You're good to go. Max is 1000 gph, I believe. More than the 2 425 Koralias combined.

I was thinking of having them on at alternating times. One is on while the other is off. It would definitely be cheaper.

I'm not really too worried about having not enough flow. As it is I have two 525 GPH power heads but they can't be controlled unfortunately. I've found a way that they aren't blasting everything but it really depends on where in the tank. My two clownfish just hang out in the corner and don't swim anywhere else.

Right what I am saying though is that the Koralia 425s together will be similar to the max flow of the RW-4, but the RW-4 comes with the controller. Which is cheaper, the RW-4 or the controller that links the koralias? I'd go with whichever is cheapest.

I can get the controller for $50 shipped and then whatever the Koralias cost. I'm just not sure if having a powerhead on each side is worth the extra $30 over the single, cheaper, and more powerful jebao.

Wait, I thought you already had the two powerheads? If you don't just get the RW-4. Seriously. It comes with a controller already, is easy to use, and it puts out MORE gph than the max of the other two combined. It takes up less space, will be less power consumption and it rocks. Spend the 70 bucks on the jebao and be done with it.

I currently have two power heads but they are dirt cheap and can not be run on a controller. They are the 530 GPH ones. I think I might just see if I can get a hold of a Jebao RW-4. Thanks

Well I guess I'm going with a Jebao RW-4. Have a post in the classifieds here looking for a used one and if I can't get one used then I'll just bite the bullet and buy a new one but I'll give it a week or so.

Koralias are dog $hit.

Well, I am not as eloquent as CrazyEyes is ( ;) ), but I have had 2 Jebao WP-10's fail on me, whereas my Koralias (I have 5 in different tanks) have never given me a hint of issues, and some are getting up there in age, so I might consider the Jebao pumps worse than dogs..t!

Im with zooman... the jebaos are nice, but they can be noisy and they're longevity is unproven at best. I've had my koralias for a while now and if you ever have any issues Hydor takes care of you regardless of whether the warranty is expired or not

Wave action will look cooler with the jebao... but you can get just as functional flow with the hydors even without the wavemaker
