How does it makes sense? It won't work any better than just running the media, and then you have to worry about how to get the fines out of the water. Inventing problems where there are none IMHO. Inventing problems where there are none IMHO.surface area is increased, so the overall potential of nitrates to react with the carbon increases with this. i dont do it, so no problem for me to deal with.
