Should I change maintenance?

I'm currently running a 20 long and will be adding a sump that consists of a second 20 long. My question is in regards to water changes. I only have two black and white percula clownfish as the tank just finished cycling recently and they are doing well. I'm currently running carbon and purigen in a HOB filter and no skimmer. I have three small LPS frags in the tank as well as some zoanthids but nothing else. As of now I'm only doing 2-3 gallon water changes on the tank once a week. With the addition of the 20 gallon sump, would I need to increase the size of the water change if the bioload is still the same?

Good question. But I don't think that you have increased your water volume dramatically, due to the LR in there(you never really had 20G in there). I would stick with your current schedule. I change 3G a week on my 28G NC and it works great.

Yea, as of now I only have about 15 gallons of water in there. The auto-top off sensor prevents me from raising the water level very high. My water level is about 2-3" below the top of the tank. The sump will probably add an extra 12-15 gallons or so. On the bright side I can probably raise the water level in the display tank and make it look a bit better.

On a side note, what's the best place to put the auto top off sensor in a sump? I'm assuming the last section where the pump is correct? The sump needs some TLC and I'm going to have him fill it before I pay but below is the sump. Water is going to flow into the left side which is a refugium and then overflow into the center section and the pump will be on the right side. For now I don't have a skimmer so the left and middle will be full of live rock. I'm pretty sure the right section would be the one with the dropping water level as water evaporates but I'm not sure.

Awesome. So the person that I told yesterday that I would buy the sump ended up selling it today to someone else... Guess no sump just yet.
