150w MH too much ?

I'm really considering doing a 150w MH over my nano (7g) even at 10-12" do anyone think it would be too much ? I know with the stock 150w FNI ballast they won't create off the wall par,but figured it'd be enough to make sps grow like crazy. I'm also thinking about going full retard and adding 2 24" T5's to the mix too.. I figure with FNI still doing 50% off,$70 isn't a bad deal and with premium aquatics doing their sale on halide bulbs $40 for a XM 20K would be a steal :D

Keep your house cold?

The light intensity will be fine. The heat tho...

I wouldn't say "cold" but on the cooler side like 75-76. I have t5's (4 bulb)now about 6-7" off the water surface and my temps stats at 77-78 thru the day no problem.

My K2 150 is 8" off the water and i think I would be fine keeping SPS. The only problem I've noticed is it raises the tank temp after my house reaches 74 degrees or higher.

Mh is like twice as hot as some t5s. Just have a strategy to deal with it when you tank is hitting 80-82

Bro! Go on Amazon and type in aquarium fan and buy the cheapest fan you see because j know damn well you have a rinless tank and all will be good brother:) metal halide all day bruh!! And plus for the t5's and I personally know Simon he lives across the bridge bay bridge In san fransisco. He's hella chill.

Way of dealing with it is a fan off amazon :)

The reefoptix has a great spread but can't buy one if you're trying to be cheap. Maybe check classifieds. Old mh stuff is prob going cheap these days

I have a huge 90 or 120mm fan now on my FNI 4 bulb fixtire and everything runs cool. So I'm hoping if I use that fan on the halide itd keep it just as cool. Idk though. The price keeps tempting me though,it's not a bad deal. I can also get a reflector pretty cheap locally and cut it to fit in the existing reflectora place, and if need be buy a new ballast.

Premium aquatics does have a nice 150w light for $150. It's a better known brand, just can't remember what one it was lol.
