stokeds
How should I go about controlling this stuff i have read that Continuum Bacter clean M works well. I kind of want to stay away from Kent M because I don't to raise the magnesium levels in a small tank. Link to comment
D Z
Honestly raising your Mag level isn't directly going to cause you a problem. What I have found, though, is by raising your Mag level, you may also raise your Alk. In my case, I have my mag all the way up to about 1800, and it caused my alk to go from 8 to 11. The one alternative that I have been able to find is dosing hydrogen peroxide. It may be worth looking into if you want to avoid Tech M. Link to comment
stokeds
Well if i do decide to go with Kent M then how much do i dose to a 10 gal? Link to comment
BulkRate
A "lettuce" sea slug (either E. diomedea or E. crispata) will forage exclusively on it, if you want a biological control that's also cool to look at. Personal experience says they'll find and take every opportunity at getting muched in a powerhead or stranded above the waterline, though. Link to comment

stokeds
Let's just make sure I'm dealing with the right stuff Link to comment
Lawnman
Looks like some bryopsis and a form of bubble algae. Not really sure all of that is Bryopsis. Link to comment
stokeds
well when I leave those little stalk like things alone for to long they turn into the feather looking ones. Link to comment

stokeds
well since looking at the pic I have, could some of this be a type of bubble algae? If so should I try an emerald crab? Link to comment
D Z
well since looking at the pic I have, could some of this be a type of bubble algae? If so should I try an emerald crab? Emeralds are hit or miss at best when it comes to bubble algae, and from what I have read, they almost never eat the bryopsis. They are also hit or miss when it comes to being reef safe. Personally, I had a bad experience when I tried one. It ignored the bubble algae and went straight for my favorite blasto. Others have had better luck, but I wouldn't take the chance again. Sunstar
I spoke to the coral reef shop in our area, and they said to go with the peroxide method as the tech M was more batch specific and it may not work anymore. As it stands I have done both dip and dosed, then c hanged water a couple hours after dose. The bryopsis after the dip has all gone grey. I am still trying to spoit out areas on the glass, which is how I am basically dosing the tank as well. Quite a lot went in and I did a huge water change to reduce the dose later. Link to comment
stokeds
I have got one spot with a lot of the algae. All I did was get a flat rock that had nothing on it and put it over the algae problem. In about 2 days I saw a big difference,it turned white and I vacuumed it up. Link to comment
Sunstar
I thought I might mention that I saw these fireworms merrily gnawing away on my matt of algae in my 10 gallon. there are three rather fat and well fed fellas working away at this. I have noticed some areas well mown and was wondering what was chewing on the problem. I have never had issue with these creatures in my tank, I hate touching them for sure but they have always been nothing but beneficial in my eyes. Link to comment
