Best dosing option for 28 gal Nanocube

Best in what regard? Cost, safety, ease of use? If the former, kalkwasser is your answer. If the latter two, then likely two-part supplements, which can be made relatively cheap. I would probably lean toward kalkwasser use myself, but it depends upon average pH prior to use and other factors

First, figure out how much you need to keep levels where you want them. Measure your alk/ca every day for a week and you'll get a sense of how much is needed to add daily.

Then your options are kalk in the ATO reservoir, or 2 part dosing. I think kalk is probably the easiest once you get the set up right, but it has a lot more potential for problems. I decided to go with 2 BRS dosing pumps running directly from bottles of brightwell A&B bottles. I sorted out how much to add daily, then connected those to my APEX. Easy as that.

Kalk requires no new equipment, but you can shock the tank a lot more easily and your evaporation rates will change - which can maybe cause fluctuations....which is what you're trying to avoid in the first place.

Well I did my weekly 5gal waterchange Friday. Just did my first cal/alk test of the week, Cal= 476,Alk=119 ppm,6.6dkh. Alk is usually way lower than Calcium. Depletes faster too I've noticed

I don't bother dosing anything on my NC28G and I never test for calcium and that other kind of stuff. I have been doing 3G weekly water changes with no issues when it comes to coral growth and general health of my animals. This has been my experience since 2006. I suggest the same.

Do you dose any kind of supplements for color, etc?

Nope. The only thing that I have been trying out for the last couple of months is reef chili from BRS once a week to try to increase coral growth a little, but can't say for sure that it's working after about 3 months, but some people swear that it does help. That's it. Don't complicate things. Do your weekly water changes, sit back and enjoy your tank.

Aqua Vitro Fuel is a pretty awesome product imo. I've definitely seen a great improvement in growth with my SPS since I started using it and their colors are extremely vibrant under the actinics. I only use half the recommended dosage per week since I do a weekly water change as well.

Is your tank a 28G NC? Just curious. I'm glad that's working for you.

It's a 29gallon rimmed rectangle so same water volume I guess. Unfortunately I have to dose for calcium and alkalinity daily as well because it drops so fast and I know keeping that consistent helps as well.

So far I've been testing calcium/alk everyday this week, calcium doesn't seem to drop to much. Alk seems to be the thing that drops into mid to low 6dkh.

You said it was 6.6 right after your WC - what's it reading now, about 5 days later? Doesn't sound like it dropped a whole lot?

It seems like your water changes would be fine to keep it steady if it hasn't even dropped a point in one week. I would just bring it up to at least 7.5-8.0 as 6 is a bit low.

Ok I just tested calcium/alk, via Hannah Checkers. Alk is 107 ppm (5.9 dkh). Calcium is 441 ppm. Compared to the initial test on Monday, Alk 119ppm (6.6dkh). Calcium 476ppm.
