mountaineer
It looked dicey there for awhile, but four months on, my modest little reef putters on... Love this open brain, my one pricier coral, though its sweeper tentacles are ridiculous at night and ensure it will get more than its fair share of real estate: Awesome gorgonian, got it fairly cheap. I plan to add more: Clowns & assorted. I have a McCosker's and a starry blenny in here, but they're camera shy. Link to comment
Partially Submerged
Very nice! How big is that tank? Hard to tell from the images... Link to comment
yomon347
Looking good! If you could snag a pic of the sweeper tentacles at night we would love to see them. Link to comment
mountaineer
It`s a 27 gallon marineland cube. I swear, last night the tentacles were out 14 inches, maybe 16. I couldn`t believe it. I have the powerhead blowing it so it doesn`t cause too much damage. I like sandbed corals like fungia & brains...The cube aquascape makes that difficult. Next time, I`m going with a long tank. The fish do seem to enjoy all the open swimming room, though. Link to comment
Reefin Ric Flair
Really beautiful job! I love that open brain on the sandbed. What corals and colors are you going to add next? Link to comment
mountaineer
Really beautiful job! I love that open brain on the sandbed. What corals and colors are you going to add next? Thanks. We have a blizzard on the way, so right now I'm focused on hoping my livestock makes it...ugh. Totally unprepared. I have a Coleman stove to heat water, but I don't have a means of aeration. Hope it isn't as bad as they're calling for. If I can save some shekels, I'm going to look for a lime-tipped Torch -- some kind of Torch, anyway -- and a golden gorgonian if I can find one. And maybe a Duncan frag, mushrooms and rics. But I'm probably not going to add much until I begin dosing Ca/alk. Still figuring out that part of the equation. I remember watching Ric Flair many moons ago, the proud son of Memphis, TN, lol. Link to comment
mountaineer
Having a hellacious storm up here. The whole house is rocking. Power went out at 9 am and didn`t come back on till after 8 pm. Nerve-racking day. I was floating hot water bottles to keep the temperature up. I`ve got to get a generator. The brain coral is stressed and the wrasse is MIA, but besides that, the livestock seems okay... Link to comment
mountaineer
Ugh...I lost the wrasse in the storm. I had to leave the cover off to float water bottles and aerate the tank. It was very dark, and in the commotion, he jumped behind the tank. He was fine around 6 pm, then when the lights popped on at 8 pm, he was nowhere to be found. I thought he was doing his typical wrasse thing and hiding in the rocks. Pretty bummed. He was my wife`s favorite, a healthy little guy with great colors. We`d had him since October. I`m definitely buying a generator. I`d say we got 2+ feet of snow, but the drifts are up to the top of my Jeep. Link to comment
