thinklogically Posted January 23, 2015 Share Posted January 23, 2015 I'm planning on starting a Pico Tank that is 1.5 gallons- 7x7x7 inches. I want it to be a Pico Filterless tank, but I want it to have live rock, coral, and possibly a hermit crab/emerald crab. Should I get a heater? If so, what type? Anything else I need? Link to comment

CrazyEyes Posted January 24, 2015 Share Posted January 24, 2015 I use the 7w heater made by deep blue. Keeps the tank at a stable 78, its on a 8x8x8 cube. And we keep our apt around 72 - 73 degrees. Link to comment
Sunstar Posted January 24, 2015 Share Posted January 24, 2015 I have a 50 watt therm hydor heater that sits in my refugium in my 1.5 gallon. I am looking to possibly replace it with something that can be more stable, but my home temperature can swing because I keep my windows open all winter. I am actually more concerned about summer over heating than winter warming, because its easier to heat than to cool, and we don't have air con - yet. Link to comment
Jellyingabout Posted April 3, 2015 Share Posted April 3, 2015 I'm quite interested in this also as I'm setting up a 1.5g pico too, my jar has a collar with some nautical looking rope around it at the top so i can hide small gear up there. I can't however hide a long heater. i have a small pump for circulation in it at the moment from a rena superclean filter which is raising my temp about 6°C as it is. So I figure a second one of those may be enough? Link to comment
Jellyingabout Posted April 6, 2015 Share Posted April 6, 2015 Ok so after some hard thinking and research I've boiled it down to two options. 1) a reptile thermostat control with a heat mat plug in. that way the only thing in the tank would be the thermostat probe no bigger than a pen lid, it would turn the heat matt on and off around the right temp. 2) a mini sump. a Tupperware box the same size as the base of the jar with a tiny pump and a heater inside, underneath the jar. I'd bring the tubes and cables out one end with stuffing glands. Link to comment
