IM Fusion 10 startup from 2 year old 40 gal...

So basically I got a Innovative Marine fusion 10 2 days ago. I set it up as soon as I get home using sand, live rock, and water from my 40 gallon that's been rock and fish Mainly. I took 5 gallons of water out and filled the rest up with fresh saltwater. So basically a 50% water change. Last night I checked my parameters and they were as followed:

Specific grabity: 1.024

Ammonia: 0ppm

Ph: 8.0

KH: 10

CA: 500

So basically those are numbers that moat refers would be satisfied with. Now what I'm wondering is if my tank would still need to cycle? I'm still planning to wait a week or 2 just for bacteria to start in the filters before I add my skimmer. Has anyone tried this before and been able to go without the regular style cycle?

just moved rock from an existing tank to a new one. Should be good to go pretty quick. Wouldn't expect your rock to need a "cycle" unless its covered in fish poo and debris or you left it out of the tank for hours or something.

Thanks for the info. I'm really hoping to get it going in a week or 2. I'm totally shocked by the color of the live rock now that it's under white light! It's been under a Kessil ocean blue so everything's been real blue looking. Kind of makes me want to get rid of the Kessil and get a adjustable light!

It would basically be an instant cycle. :) You should be good. But best to test your filtrative capacity anyways. Toss in some fish food and see how the system reacts. If PANN doesn't skyrocket, you are good. :)

Do you think some flakes so it goes into the filters or some sinking food? Or basically same deal? I suppose I'll start the skimmer up also. Also quick question. How can I post some pictures?

Either/or. Or both.

For photos, you can host them on something like photobucket.com and then add them as images in your posts.
