Wjcastiglione
hey guys, So this rock has had some die off of zoas for a couple weeks now and I cant figure it out - its just one spot but it's definitely spreading. I took the whole rock out the other day and dipped it in reef dip for 10 min. any idea what could be irritating this section? from what I know - I have no fish that would eat it and I haven't seen anyone picking on it. jdog
How long have you had it? Have you tried moving it away from the overhang and giving it more light? I have mine under light and they are growing good. Originally had them hidden and they looked like yours. Just a thought. Link to comment
Wjcastiglione
They've been in that same exact spot for about a month it not more. They were perfectly content there up until a week or two ago. I thought maybe the overhang too - however, the ones that are more effected by the shadow are doing just fine. It's this one random section. Link to comment
LongPig
Zoas are weird. Sometimes they'll thrive in a spot for awhile then suddenly need to be moved. Also check for pests. Link to comment

I dipped the whole rock a couple days ago - didn't help at all. seems to have gotten worse since then. I guess I could move to a different lighting location - but I'm pretty convinced that's not the case. anybody else have any idea? Link to comment

Most of the time zoas like that already have a fungus and will wither away. Your best bet is to dip them in a peroxide dip to get that film off there stalks. You will lose some but some is better than all. Link to comment

Tenor
Eagle eye will do well under low light. You could turn the white light lower and will see it open larger and stop melting. Link to comment
Polarcollision
+1 to peroxide dip. Some of my zoas melted away from microbes. You can't see them without macro lens or microscope, but peroxide takes care of it. Link to comment

Wjcastiglione
Ever figure out the problem with the zoas? Did you manage to save them? Sure didn't. They're all there and Alive but it's spread and now the whole rock is closed up basically. Not sure what the deal is. They're alive - just closed up and mad. Link to comment
Slowtwitch
Get a magnifying lens and look very carefully for nudibranchs. They are tiny. I had a couple come in on a zoa frag from a local guy. My zoas acted the same way until i got all the nudis out. At least I think i got the all now.... Link to comment
Wjcastiglione
This peroxide dip - is that just normal peroxide from a grocery store? How much do I dilute it with water? Link to comment
RowdyWest
This peroxide dip - is that just normal peroxide from a grocery store? How much do I dilute it with water? I'd like to know what kind of dip this is too. I've had the same problem with zoa colonies. I've had them propagate and thrive and then one day just decide they don't want to live anymore. I had a beautiful colony of Eagle eyes with the best color pop and they just decided to melt away one day. I never figured it out! Zoas are so sketch like that. Sorry dude. Oh, and you do look like Josh Koscheck... Link to comment

Keeping adding cap full until it bubbles. Then wait 3-5 minutes. Have cured every zoo colony that has ever been a problem for me. Link to comment
